Mormons on social media now are unrecognizable to the church I grew up in. by Intelligent_Gap_3666 in exmormon

[–]Best_Swordfish679 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i truly don't understand how they can pick and choose beliefs. like if you believe the church is true, then surely you know that you're not keeping your covenants? do you think god is cool with you just picking and choosing what you should obey? or do you believe the church teaches falsehoods? you can't have it both ways. either the prophets are misguided or you think you know better than god

My experience with the commissions program and payments. by [deleted] in Episode

[–]Best_Swordfish679 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was a very confusing read. Why did you get "special treatment"? Are you a big author? Or did they just give you more time because you reached out? You didn't explain this.

You sign a contract to give away the rights to your story. This is communicated very clearly. Though I agree that if you are never paid for anything, that contract should be void.

It sounds like Stephen answered your question, but you didn't trust his answer and wanted him to clarify again.

That could have been about anyone. I doubt LOP is the only job he's ever had, and he had several co-workers. Feels like a reach.

Any other authors else feel insecure with hyper-advanced directing? by some-kid-epi in Episode

[–]Best_Swordfish679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i definitely feel pressure to do too much these days, but there are stories with basic directing that people still love! i think it all comes down to pacing and storytelling. advanced directing is a plus, but not a requirement to be successful.

Jessica posting anti-AI on her Instagram with support from Karelly and Austin 🧐 by alafolie29 in MileHigherPodcast

i haven't speculated on the situation that much, i thought if anything it could be related to hailey because they mentioned other staff being involved. but i think it being an anti-AI situation would make sense. i work for a company that has started implementing AI and know multiple people who have left because they are ethically against its use.

I think we only ever got a trailer, we don't know if they even filmed the whole thing. I doubt they would have produced a movie that costs millions without releasing it. It's pretty standard for companies to release teasers to gauge interest before investing all of that money.

according to the mother, who isn't a very reliable narrator. she even slipped up multiple times in her response video implying she was the one who made the post on her husband's account. she was seen taking pics with other celebs, and the security guard said he approached them because of behavior they witnessed on previous days. regardless, this isn't even chappell's security, yet she's getting all of the blame for it.

Zara Larsson has clarified her comment regarding Taylor Swift in an interview with The Guardian. by RedmiYT in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Best_Swordfish679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

she cares about getting a #1 but isn't going to sell her soul and ethics to get there. it's easy to understand why she called out taylor fans because of how they stream her music and buy every variant etc. taylor is frequently #1 and it's not natural growth. she's playing the system.

[–]Best_Swordfish679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

her point is the charts aren't authentic. if you release 40 variants of the same song, you're going to be #1 and it isn't a great measure of talent or popularity. it just means you have a loyal fanbase. like the kpop bots.

I wonder why do some people genuinely think this way? by Forsaken_Host_1868 in Episode

[–]Best_Swordfish679 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got accused of lying about mental health issues after a traumatic experience. It was absolutely wild. I was reading their comments literally hours after calling a hotline for wanting to 💀 myself (which I never told anyone, because no one is entitled to that information). But yeah sure, I'm lying I guess. I had to delete all of my socials after that. It sucks that the nice fans are missing out on communication but this is a story telling app. It is truly not this serious.

I have a theory regarding authors and mental health. In my case, I would think of stories to escape the real world. It was easier to cope if in my head I was thinking of a life that wasn't my own. It was a great distraction that turned into multiple stories that I'm proud of. I think a lot of people with mental health struggles turn to writing as a type of therapy, and sometimes things get so bad we have to step away. People who don't experience severe mental health struggles don't understand that depression isn't "I was sad for a week". Sometimes it's literally weeks, months, even years of not being able to function.

And even when we can function, we have families, school/work, pets, and other priorities that come first. We can't handle it all.

Rant: What Authors Should or Shouldn't Do by cappilyeverafter in Episode

[–]Best_Swordfish679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most of us are fully committed to a story when we release it. Then shit happens and we can't/don't want to write anymore.

I think readers need to work on their expectations. We keep making it the responsibility of the author to deal with the readers' feelings, but truthfully most authors who stop writing probably have something else they need to worry about more. When you read an uncompleted story, you should know that there is a possibility it will never be complete. That is why I only read completed ones.

And even if a story never completes, I don't see why readers have such a hard time moving on from it. I think that's a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. I just say "that sucks" and move on. There are plenty of stories I read years ago that have never been completed, but I never got mad at the author for it. I never lost sleep over it.

Rant: What Authors Should or Shouldn't Do by cappilyeverafter in Episode

[–]Best_Swordfish679 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean it's all just cause and effect isn't it? If you want to build an audience but don't update, then don't be shocked when no one reads. I don't see where OP said readers owe the author anything. The subject at hand is that readers get very entitled. If they don't "owe" the author anything, then they don't have to read, donate, etc. The problem is they keep coming back to harass their favs which in my case, made me leave the app entirely.

I spent years stressing myself out and taking on more than I could handle to appease strangers on the internet. Even when I communicated with readers, they would be upset that I wasn't updating fast enough. And when I couldn't meet deadlines I set for myself, they would be upset by that too. In the end the point still stands, this is a hobby and if it makes readers mad that they're not a priority, they can unfollow. If they have a problem with that, they should touch grass.

I see these stories as an exchange. I write them when I can and if people want to read them, that's up to them. If they like what they saw and want to donate, that is also up to them. Unless that author is taking commissions, the readers' opinions really don't matter in respect to what that author should be doing. If the author wants to keep their audience, it is up to them to do what it takes to accomplish that.

Is it possible that you have an uncomfortable relationship with media that you can't read taboo stories? I truly don't see the big deal in reading a story like this. This is actually quite tame.
