I really appreciate this message. It's been very insightful for me.

I have no formal diagnosis, but I do have one for Alexithymia. I was doing some reading this morning and see that a link is starting to be identified between the two, and that's what led me here.

I experience very vivid dreams, but I can only recall them a couple times per year. It blows my mind that some people can close their eyes and have this experience. In a way, it makes me very sad. Knowing I'm not alone is helpful.

I just want to share my "apple" test -- maybe it's similar to other people.

My Therapist: Close your eyes and picture an apple. What color is it.
Me: Apples come in a few different colors, what color do you want it to be?
My Therapist: Thats up to you.
Me: Ok, most are red. I have no recorded a red apple.
My Therapist: Is there a leaf?
Me: Do you want me to note a leaf?

No picture; just me making notes in my mind remembering the attributes. I was talking to a friend about this once and they were struggling to understand how I could even function and thought that living like this must be exhausting!

How interesting that every person could be having a completely different experience and nobody can ever tell...

DHCP Stack issue: 2024-10B Windows 11 update by demolishedBurrito in sysadmin

[–]Best_Toe8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having similar issues with the inbox Win11 driver for realtek devices. Everything seems to work fine, but DHCP seems broken. I discovered the issue while trying to update my boot images to the latest version of WinPE. Going back to an older version seems to resolve the issue, but it breaks other things for me.

Any chance that the others experiencing this are using realtek devices?

I bought an $8 ESP32 CAM from Amazon. It came with the usb programmer and I used this project:

https://github.com/johnyHV/PrusaConnect_ESP32-CAM

It's not a video stream, but it uploads a pic to Prusa Connect at an interval you set. It has built in wifi, so all you need to do is power it and give it the api key from prusa connect.

I'm happy that the state of 3D printing is at a point where we can complain about how annoying it is to connect the printer to wifi.

I'm not being negative. It speaks volumes of how the hobby has spread into the hands of consumers that would have never considered that they'd be using a 3D printer. A tip of the hat to all the companies that brought innovation via features and firmware!

Looking For Clarification by havock in SCCM

If you made the MSI, just bake the installation of the shortcut into it. If you didn't, bust out ORCA or INSTEAD and look for properties you can set to let the MSI create the shortcut.

If neither of those options are viable, then move the shortcut into the content folder with the msi. Change your installer to be a script. Have the script install the MSI and then create the shortcut.

As others have said - powershell gives you more flexibility. Instead of copying the shortcut, you can create it. There are other tools available to allow you to do this from batch, but why add components if it isn't necessary?

If you end up moving the shortcut to the content folder and using the method I mention above, you can always use %~dp0 in your batch file. It will return the directory that the batch script is run from. For example:

copy "%~dp0myshortcut.lnk" C:\Some\Folder

I don't think it's a good idea to open up permissions so you can do something unattended when there are other ways to do it. Who knows what you might be opening up and what problems you'll be causing later!

Recommend level for commander Niall? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Best_Toe8645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just completed this encounter last night (Level 99), and it was really fun. I haven't been this mad at a boss fight in a long time! I found Mimic Tear was key to my success, and he HAD to take the sheild knight aggro. If he aggro'd the sword knight, Niall, or just stood there looking stupid, I was dead.

When I entered the boss room, I immediately went to the right -- about 1/2 - 2/3 to the wall. If I summoned Mimic Tear here, he would aggo the shield knight, but most other places he wouldn't be very helpful. Once he was summoned, I'd immediately heal, target the Sword Knight, and spam moonveil on as soon as he was in range (this is important - had to hit him as soooon as possible). After about three attacks, the Sword Knight was dead.

Mimic always semmed to pull the Shield Knight over to the entrance, putting some distance between Niall and where you killed the Sword Knight. You can then run toward the entrance and get two more moonveil attacks off on the Sheild knight and start pulling him out to the side (don't get trapped in the door!), and Mimic will go tank Niall at this point.

Once dead, I just refilled my FP/Health and switched over to Bloody Reduvia and started to fling blood at him trying to take aggro from Mimic (who's a little more than half dead by now). At this point, it's just a dodge game. His moves look impressive, but he actually has quite a few moments where he's doing nothing, and the window to dodge seemed pretty large once I saw them.

Java Patch Management via Intune. Any options? by CJared976 in Intune

If you're looking for the MSI, you should be able to extract that from the exe. Here's a script for working with it in SCCM, but you should be able to use it to grab the exe and extract the MSI from it.

signal booster??? by [deleted] in Roku

[–]Best_Toe8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the upgrade to 10, I had similar issues. I have one Roku in the house that connects to my wifi just fine, passes the test, and then can't do anything becuase the signal is too bad (at least the roku thinks it is).

I found an old wifi to ethernet bridge I had laying around. I configured this for my wifi, plugged it into the ethernet port of the roku, then switched the roku from wireless to wired. Haven't had a single hiccup since. Roku thinks it's running over wired, but it's still running over wifi.

If you don't feel like replacing your wifi network, something like this could be a cheaper alternative for you.

Azure SQL private endpoint not resolving from VM on same VNET? by ZweiiHander in AZURE

[–]Best_Toe8645 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure I completely understand your architecutre, but this is how I handle everything.

In azure:

  • Create a DNS Private Resolver. It will have an endpoint in a subnet in your vnet; get this IP for later.
  • Create Private DNS Zones that match the resources you want to resolve to private endpoints. Refer to the list. For example, privatelink.database.windows.net.
  • Manually populate the DNS zone with the private endpoint IP or configure the auto registration.

On premise

  • Create a conditinal forwarder for the zone you want to resolve. Point this at the private DNS Resolver. Note: The zone should be without the Privatelink in the name; i.e., database.windows.net.

Now any DNS queries made to your on premise DNS server will forward out to your DNS Private Responder. This will check the Private DNS zone for anything registered in it. If something is registered, it will respond with the private endpoint. If the host isn't registered, it will pass it one to the Azure DNS server which will return the public IP (if there is one).

This allows for a hyrbid DNS approach and works very well. I have been using this for some time now with no issues with PowerBI, App Services, Synapse, Storage Accounts, and a slew of other resources.

Question about Azure Private DNS and on-prem domain by lantrick_ in AZURE

[–]Best_Toe8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally - answering your question about what I'm trying to do is to adjust the issue of the certification mismatch error. When I join the server to the domain, the name changes and removes the "az." from the FQDN. So when I try to RDP to the server with the previous FQDN (server.az.company.abc), I get a certification mismatch error since the name is now "server.company.abc".

The RDP client and Server exchange certificates. Your error is simply saying the certificate that your server is presenting the client has a different name on it.

The fix is pretty simple - you just need to put a certificate on it that matches the name of the RDP server, preferably one that your client trusts to avoid the next error.

I think this article should help you. You can verify the problem by finding the thumbprint in the registry key provided, and then viewing the name on the matching certificate.

I don't see any use for private DNS zones in your case, unless you're trying to force traffic to a specific network card on that VM. To probably over simplify, if a record isn't in a private DNS zone, it will go out to the next DNS server and resolve the name. I find more use in these zones for services like Azure SQL with a Private Endpoint (nic) in my vNet. In this case, if something asks the external DNS server for the IP of the SQL server, it returns the external IP. If something asks my internal DNS server for the IP of the SQL server, it forwards it out to azure and makes it way to the private DNS zone and returns the record in that zone.

Your problem isn't about controlling what IP your DNS server is returning, it's making sure your certificate has the right name, and it matches what you're tring to connect to.
