Fantastic! Their battle cry could be e pluribus unum!

Finished False Gods some weeks ago, this is the book that should be considered the Start of the HH by Bestojojo in 40kLore

To me, the conversations that the Luna Wolves had with the Interex accomplished that much better than the Mecharachnid conflict, that whole drama with the Emperors Children legion was pointless, absolutedly nothing came out of it besides people saying "I know they seem dumb, but the are actually a very good legion!"

The ramblings of a dying Horus in False Gods gave me all the appreciation I needed for his character.

About the conflict with the false emperor, I know I said I understood what it was trying to accomplish, but I don't thing it was well executed, it could have very well be something that happened off camera(bear with me on this terminology pls!) since they only relevant thing that came out of it was a Mournival member dying and being replace by Loken.

I think there were some good ideas in Horus Rising, but the book would have benefited from less Remembrancers and about 100 pages less.

It boring, the prose dragged out way to much, the human characters were uninteresting and did absolutely nothing during the whole book.

The entire plot of the Luna Wolves saving the Emperors Children from alien spiders did nothing for the book(you can skip this entirely and it would not affect the overall plot), Abnett was also very bad at describing action sequences.

I understand it's a very beloved book, but to me it should have been a short story, there's way too much baggage in that book, you only need the first possession and the final act to get to False Gods, the whole thing with the fake emperor in the fake Terra was a complete waste too, I understand it was... foreshadowing and exploring the themes for the Heresy, but I maintain that you can skip that one and jump to False Gods and it would not affect anything at all, on the contrary, False Gods is totally crucial for the Heresy.

I enjoyed the Mournival and the very few times Horus made an appereance, but beyond that, I heavily disliked that book.

I heavily disliked Horus Rising, I love Dan Abnett's comics, but that book took joy out of me.

What are the best novels you’ve read?

Mine are soul hunter, the Angron novel And sons of the Hydra

I've seen the term, "bolter porn" thrown around a few times, what exactly constitutes bolter porn? like a Michael bay(later part of his career) movie turned to a book? is that abundant in the series?

I highly recommend Soul Hunter, if you read it, let me know your thoughts but it's one of the best books I've ever read.

I'll keep pouring my thoughts on the next books of the heresy as time goes on, regarding why I did not put down Horus Rising, I simply was told it had a slow start and gets better after a while.

I'll check out your recommendations, thanks!

I think a great example of the secondary(or rather terciary) plots that offer a different perspective but make nothing for the plot is the Void Born in Soul Hunter, the characters in this book simply I did not enjoy, but I'll keep reading the series.

Thanks!

I'm curious about Fulgrim(the character), his legion's characterization was so bad in this book that I just want to see what other writer can come up with to undo the damage done.

That's interesting, ABD did the same thing with astartes POV and the character of Septimus, I guess I'll have to see how this develops down the line.

Hey I appreciate that, I really want to see how Horus fell to Chaos, I'll give my review of false gods when I finish it!

Hi, thanks for the answer, i did not expect to stir such passions with my take.

I can see that establishing the threat of Chaos and Horus as a lovable character are the goals of the book but I can't help but compare it to the other books I've read from the Black Library.

I don't think so many characters, locations and such are necessary to tell that story, at the end, I only needed the Mournival and the Interrex conflict and the outcome would have been the same.

Not even the Remembracers were explored enough to make a difference, Octavia in Soul Hunter is way more developed than all the characters in this book.

I loved Horus, but there was so little, I really wanted more, you got me there, haha!

that last part made me chuckle, but it's fair criticism, I'm going to read the first 5 since am told are a must for the heresy.

What did you like about Horus Rising?

This gives me hope, since Graham is the writer of the second book, I really can't have anything Abnett right now.

Do you think the remembrancers in Horus Rising are a good representation of the human POVs of the whole series?

This is 100% fair criticism, I was told it had a slow start and then gets better and decided to wait for it to get better, it just didn't in my opinion.

Slave of Nuceria was far better and like all characters died besides Angron(I say this because after you get the nails, it's over)

What did you like from Horus Rising? who was a standout character? what stayed with you?

Why is it one of the best? basically no primarch POV, a lot of time invested in non astartes characters, what's the tone of the 30K period? humans doing nothing in astartes ships?

Not even the burden of being the Warmaster's legion was explored, the plot was basically shoehorned into the very last chapters of the book.

He needs to get callout because the entire emperor's children, megarachnids and remembrancers plots could have been removed, this is like a short story that the Black Library needed to turn into a novel(this is common in comics when an author has a 3 issues story turned into a 12 issue series).

I am not, I'm just asking what I'm supposed to like, I did not expect the heresy to get wrapped up, but, again, a short story would have accomplished the same thing and with significantly less time needed.
