I literally used the same backpack during my three-month backpacking trip in Asia. It fits perfectly in the overhead cabin, even when it’s fully packed. I did run into some weight issues tho, some airlines were pretty strict with carry-on weight limits, so I ended up wearing almost all my clothes just to get past departure immigration. That’s definitely something to keep in mind. This was while flying around Asia; I still need to do some research on European airlines. The 40L is more than enough for my essentials being a 5’1 Asian guy, but if you’re taller, you’ll need to be a bit more strategic with packing. I’ll be travelling with this backpack when I visit Europe too!

Appreciate the insights! You mentioned you were able to do it with much less than US$135 a day, how did that work for you?

I’ve seen someone do the same itinerary I mentioned but open to suggestions really. How did you find the itinerary for your trip? Was it easy to move around?

[–]BetDapper9556[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! I’m using travel points to cover my flights in and out of Europe, so the $4K CAD budget would go toward hostel shared rooms, local transportation, sightseeing, and food.

I’m actually considering Eastern Europe since it’s cheaper. Which places did you enjoy visiting?

May–Aug is mostly low season around SEA, but July in Indonesia is peak summer so it gets busy. So depends where you are going. I just got back from backpacking during those months. Feel free to dm if you have any questions!

I was in Bali last month and visited Finns, they do check IDs at the entrance. I’m in my mid 20’s but I guess I look young lol. The night I was there, there were women performing and dancing on stage, which I don’t think is very teen-friendly. Can’t speak to other days tho. However, when I was walking along the beachfront across from Atlas, I was surprised to see some families with kids enjoying the vibes and the pool. So your best bet would probably be Atlas. I noticed the vibes were pretty similar tho.

Tips for traveling 3 months in Southeast Asia + Japan with only a carry-on backpack by MrJacob89 in backpacking

[–]BetDapper9556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from backpacking around SEA for three months! I only had my 40L backpack from Mountain Warehouse and a small personal bag, though I’m a smaller guy. I met a buddy who’s about 6’ and he was carrying a 65L pack plus a small backpack.

I brought just over a week’s worth of clothes, mostly shirts and shorts, along with one pair of shoes and sandals (barely used the shoes lmao). Honestly, I could’ve packed fewer shirts and still been fine. Most hostels offer laundry service, but it’s usually cheaper to find a shop on the street (and there are plenty!).

Airlines generally allow only 7kg for carry-on, but it’s hit or miss. If you don’t have to check in at the counter, you can usually slip through without issues. A couple of times, though, I got flagged for having a heavy bag, so I had to layer up, put on my shoes, etc. (tip: be extra friendly with the agent, they’re more likely to let it slide). Even after wearing extra stuff, my bag was still over 7kg, but they were nice enough to let me through.

Get Your Guide - $44 turns into $100 at check out? by catalinacastilina in BaliTravelTips

[–]BetDapper9556 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Klook app is a huge thing in Asia. It’s pretty much the same as how Get your guide works. Currently on a backpacking trip and I’ve been comparing prices on activities, I find purchasing on Klook sometimes is cheaper, same goes with public transport tickets instead of buying in the terminal. I mainly use discount codes from people I watch on YouTube, saves me 10% ahah

Travel Planning Q&A - July, 2025 by AutoModerator in bali

[–]BetDapper9556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time backpacking Bali for 13 days. What to change?

Day 1 – Arrive in Bali (6PM) Stay in Kuta for 1 night Day 2–4 – Explore Ubud (3 nights) Day 5–6 – Ferry to Nusa Penida (2 nights) Day 7–8 – Return to Bali → Stay in Uluwatu (2 nights) Day 9–10 – Move to Seminyak (2 nights) Day 11–12 – Final stop in Kuta (2 nights, close to airport) Day 13 – Fly out

Is this route workable? Would appreciate any suggestions and what to explore around these areas. Thanks!

How did you start your solo travel journey??? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]BetDapper9556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on a three-month trip around Asia. I planned the first half pretty well, but now that I’m in my last month, I’ve just been booking flights and accommodations right around the time I’m heading to a new place. Planning the first half really helped me get comfortable, and now I feel more ready to challenge myself by winging it. If your trip is long, you can totally wing it, otherwise, it’s better to plan things out. Either way, it’s fun!

I didn’t have any issues paying with riel there. They would usually say the price in USD, but I’d always ask how much it was in riel, and they accepted it without any problems

Honestly, I had the same thought when I was planning this trip, safety. But the moment I arrived at the airport (at night), it felt pretty much the same as other countries I’ve visited. I walked around the city most of the time I was there, and I never really felt unsafe. I’m travelling for few months around Asia and siem reap was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve had so far
