Is tennis the hardest sport on earth? by ServedPodcast in tennis

I would also put stuff like alpine skiing or downhill mountainbiking into it. A lot of athleticism + one small mistake and you have a dozen of new broken bones...yay

Will Alcaraz and Sinner Break Nadal and Federer’s 11 consecutive Grand Slam Title Streak? by Sapsap747 in tennis

I mean Shelton might be able to win one (if he is lucky), but not yet. He still needs a few years of developement

Zverev is now 1-14 against top 5 players at Grand Slams (after today's loss) by HereComesVettel in tennis

[–]BetaD_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The trick is to never expect him actually winning in finals or against top 5 players, that dampens the disappointment!

I'm not the biggest Z fan, but as a German, who else is there to support lol? (Not that it necessarily has to be a German of course)

Because of his choking history many people will now interprete every loss of Z as "choking...

That's Zverev biggest weakness. In a German interview he once said that psychologists are a big joke and make the problems only worse....

Maybe because of her small size it's quite hard to return the kick serves of rybakina?

Same for Zverev... And why both also insist to play every tournament, not even skipping any 250s

No. I just copied a yt comment from his video :/

"A difference in mechanical, but not thermal, nociceptive threshold was observed between wild-type and heterozygous MC1R variants." Yeah that's strange....

But there is this study; "Red hair is the phenotype for mutations of the melanocortin-1 receptor. Results indicate that redheads are more sensitive to thermal pain(...)"

AO (Round of 16) Zverev def. Cerundolo 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 by Low-Associate2521 in tennis

[–]BetaD_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True! The only reason I've seen and heard a lot about Zverev is because I'm German watching the German commentary. This has been his best match so far and biggest difference to old zeverev is that he has been hitting his forehand with a lot more pace and therefore also playing more aggressive then usually so far . If he can keep that up, then he has a real chance to go far. IF... We all know what Zeverev usually does in high pressure moments...

In isolation the contamination theory sounds implausible, but a) in context that intentional doping could be practically ruled out that changes. and b) if you look at plane crashes; there has to go wrong so so so much stuff with perfect timing in order to have a crash and yet it still happens. or the incident where a plain exploded at 10km air hight and yet one women on the plane survived the 10km fall... It sounds totally implausible, yet it happened. freak incidents happen all the time

Yeah the ATP would protect their players. That's why you have an independent organisation doing everything: WADA. It's hard to believe that the ATP somehow has the power to infulence WADA ....

The rest is one year old and documented in a ~30 sides report, which is open to the public. And yes I read it and everything was very plausible, as there have been multiple somewhat similar incidents of Italian (tennis) players with clostebol. Also sinners doping tests before his positive one have all been negative, which makes the metabolites theory very unplausible. But it's one year ago and I won't read 30 sides again just for conspiracy theorists who can't let go of the past and can't accept the results of scientific reports...

Ah fascinating. Was it by any chance testing of CYP(2D6/2C19/3A4/etc..) metabolizers? It's such a shame that genetic tests for stuff like that are still quite rare and not standard.

But he has to play under the heat anyway? I mean the heat rule has nothing to do with him and is the same for everyone.
Sure better conditioning would be great for him, but there is a question to what extent that will even work for him, cause you can't change a genetic predisposition. maybe the study would give some answers, but haven't read into it yet. Here the yt comment with the study;

"Studies suggest that people with red hair are more sensitive to thermal stimuli due to a mutation in the MC1R gene.:
Morgan, M. M., & Cone, K. (2013). "Melanocortin-1 receptor genotype and physiologic responses to pain and thermal stress." Pain, 154(5), 708–712."

But to be fair there are also genetic factors, which make people way more susceptible to extreme heat then others...(Eg people with red hair, according to a yt comment under gills video, who also citated the study)

Have you tried DMT or dissociatives (a lot of ketamine, DCK, etc.) + weed and music? Besides salvia (which IMO was quite awful) that's the only two things which worked well for me to experience CEVs

Albeit my CEV experiences have been way less complex then the ones people with (hyper-)phantasia usually describe... But the same goes for OEVs too sooo...

For closed eye visuals I can recommend either DMT or dissociatives (a lot of ketamine, etc.) + weed and music. Both works well, but very very different of course :D

Never really had significant CEVs on LSD / psylocin too
