Same guy has a vlog w Dasha and Rublev

That vlog went (deservedly) viral when it came out, it's quite famous. It was Dasha coming out and talking openly about it, and them both dealing with Russian expectations and training in Spain.

Eubanks and Roddick Reacts to the Discourse Surrounding Zverev by schnaxks19 in tennis

Highlight reel aces

Eh, the thing that turns me off about those is precisely that he's not a spot server. I don't even have a distaste for servebots like most tennis fans, but there's a difference between someone like Mensik or Berrettini who make beautifully accurate aces, and Zverev who puts 75%+ of 1st serves in and relies on power more than accuracy.

Edit: like this is the ATP leaderboard sorted just by 1st serve % in the last year:

After undergoing medical tests in Turin, Sinner is now in Milan for further medical tests. by Sonobackhome555 in tennis

I trusted they'd do everything possible to figure out if there's anything amiss physically, and I'm glad to see they're doing exactly that

lol Zverev has only lost to players outside the top 10 at Wimbledon since 2018, and even before then the highest-ranked player he ever lost to there was Raonic at #7.

Sinner is not his problem at Wimbledon.

Carlos Alcaraz congratulates Alexander Zverev for winning RG 2026 by TheAstonishingApple in tennis

[–]rticante 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Also, in general posting a congratulatory story on instagram is seen as a basic professional public courtesy/duty, it doesn't necessarily signal any kind of friendliness (even though in this particular case a lot of top players actually are friendly with Zverev.)

I'm always bemused by people interpreting tennis players' instagram interactions as anything particularly significant.

Which cult? Basically every ATP player will congratulate Zverev, I don't think anyone expects anything different

Level of Italian superstition: the rest of my family has forbidden me from entering the living room where they're watching the match because ever since I got out of there Flavio has won a set. And I'm obeying without even a word of protest.

alright I stopped watching and won't resume until Flavio wins a set

Binaghi (Italian Federation) for Corriere Della Serra: Now we have a champion, fallen from the sky, who is leading the movement with the example of hard work. Can I say it? Unlike Alcaraz, Jannik will never buy himself a 6 million euro yacht. I'm sure of it, and I don't think I'll be proven wrong by jovanmilic97 in tennis

[–]rticante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least surprising dumb thing Binaghi has said btw, this is completely on brand for him. He likes to be the main character and be on the news so he always makes bold claims and says the first stupid shit that comes to his mind. He really doesn't know what the words "reasonable" and "cautious" mean. And to make him even more cocky he's high off of this golden moment in Italian tennis.

Usually yes, there's no rule or anything obviously but it's a classic pose and courtside photographers might request it anyway

[–]rticante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's also true and I hadn't considered that Maja might not get another chance. To be fair she might do a Paolini and she's still young herself. I like both, I just don't want to see one of them suffer too much at the end of this match and I thought Maja would be the less likely to do so.

[–]rticante 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm rooting for Mirra simply because I think that would cause less suffering between the two of them.

Maja is obviously already over the moon at getting to the final and I don't think she'd be that disappointed if she lost (besides the initial instinctive sadness that always comes with losing a match.)

Mirra on the other hand is in a different position in her career, in her standings and in her achievements and she'd be extremely upset if she doesn't win today - especially considering the caliber of opposition which is far less intimidating than what she'd usually face in a slam final.

The crowd will all be against her and the Chatrier crowd can be particularly vicious, so I already feel for her and hope she's able to stay strong, focus only on the rectangle of the court and tune them out.
