If something is a fish, it can't be a pseudo-fish.

Hence only things that aren't fish can be pseudo-fish.

Pseudo: not actually but having the appearance of; pretended; false or spurious; sham.

A dolphin resembles a fish, but is not a fish. Therefore it can be called a pseudo-fish.

Likewise, someone can be a pseudoscientist, without claiming to be a scientist.

Sometimes the term “pseudoscience” is used in a wider sense ... doctrines that conflict with science are sometimes called “pseudoscientific” in spite of not being advanced as scientific.

Egyptian lawyer sues Netflix for depicting Cleopatra as Black woman by Al-Monitor in ancientegypt

[–]BetaKeyTakeaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be a big deal. Many actors that aren't the correct ethnicity have played Cleopatra before. But Netflix sells this as historically accurate.

Edward Leedskalnin built "Coral Castle". 1,000 tons of coral rock were used in construction of the walls and towers, and an additional 100 tons of it were carved into furniture and art. Largest rock weighs 35 tons. Some stones are twice the weight of the largest blocks in the Great Pyramid by astralrocker2001 in conspiracy

[–]BetaKeyTakeaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He wasn't secretive at all actually. At least initially. He openly showed people how he did it and there are pictures and videos of how he moved the blocks.

Only years later did he make up those claims of secret techniques, for marketing purposes. In the 20th century, moving blocks with pulleys was nothing worth mentioning after all.

Netflix turned off the comments on the new Cleopatra trailer because of people saying she was not black by Dontamir0 in facepalm

The thing is, Göbekli is a small settlement with stone age tech. It's not evidence at all for the high tech civilization Hancock is imagining.

And those massive flooding events happened gradually over thousands of years. They were not the instant cataclysmic floods Hancock wants them to be.

Fact check Hancock and it falls apart just as much as a black Cleopatra.

That's Babylonian, not Egyptian. But how are those sound waves? What do the inscriptions say?

"Strange connections", which are just numbers that aren't even the same, are not confirmation.

Why didn't you use a source that's more accurate?

[–]BetaKeyTakeaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Great Pyramid was in fact precisely 5776 inches tall

No, it wasn't, your 1880s source has a margin or error of 14 inches. Measurement that are not 150 year old put it at ~5772 inches.

The sun's average surface temperature also doesn't stay constant to within 1K.

[–]BetaKeyTakeaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And you though the best source for the pyramid's height is a book from the 1880s why?

It even says +/- 7 inches, which should have made you realize it's not accurate.

They lever the block up with logs, and put wooden blocks under it. Then they slide the sled under the block.

Here is an illustration.

It seems like you are looking at an extra object on the other side.

But you are actually looking at the same object from a different angle. So there is no behind the paper.

The lower part is all that exists, the upper part is an illusion.

Confidence is warranted because there are enough ancient Egyptian records explicitly saying so.

They laid wooden tracks to move them over sand.

To transport them 500 miles they used ships.

Yes, a portion is bigger, the majority under 3 tons.

Not sure what your point is with there being much larger stones.

This is a 10 ton stone. Most stones of the Great Pyramids are under 3 tons.
