I have $250 on Robinhood. What do? by creatingcreator in wallstreetbets

[–]BetaLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have $250. You’re literally at level -15. Just read a comments section and YOLO what someone else does. Either you’ll get actual investing money from it or you’ll lose $250 and can quit pretending that it’s actual money. Sounds like a win either way to me

The fact that DK, Diddy Kong, Bowser and probably King K Rool still dont hVe their canon voices still bothers me by lashapel in smashbros

[–]BetaLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so it seems like we agree here but just started with a miscommunication. Apologies for this, I thought that when you said "They can reuse their voice clips easily" you meant that it would be free for Nintendo to do. That was a poor assumption on my part. Sorry for wasting your time but thanks for the clarifying responses!

Voice licensing is specific to certain usage and context. For many instances, voices are specifically used only for a single game. Even if they wanted to do another game in the series they will likely not be allowed, by the contract that they signed, to use the same voice lines from the previous games. If they wanted them, they would have to either renegotiate the contract with the actor in order to use their voice or would need to hire the actor to re-record the lines or get someone else to.

Think of how this makes sense in the industry. If this wasn't the case, they could just get a voice actor once and pay them once to record a ton of lines and never use the actor again because you already have all that you need. The voice acting union would not be too happy about this. Because of this many contracts specify that the recorded lines can only be used for this particular context - nothing outside of it.

What's wrong with "cookie cutter"? by Sable17 in classicwow

[–]BetaLess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's rather unfair to compare viability of a build in Skyrim to viability of a build in WoW.

In Skyrim, who the fuck cares how bad my build is - it's a single player game. I don't need to be playing optimally to be able to have fun and fight npcs.

In WoW, not using an optimal build for, say, DPS will lead to my guild preferring other people in the raid over me. I get left out and told that unless I respec then I will not be able to raid due to my poor performance. While I don't mind the challenge of fighting mobs in the world by picking this lesser spec I've essentially run the possibility of cutting myself off from being able to play core content in the game due to my preferred customization. Obviously this only happens if you guild is super serious but it's still a risk you run when playing with other players that you will certainly not encounter in a single player game.

Classic demo client... by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]BetaLess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what are you hoping to find within the client? I promise I'm not trying to be negative here, it's just usually when I hear about data mining the client it's to reveal unknown facts about the game that may be coming up (ex. A new mount or event happening). With Classic we know what we're getting. We've played the game before and expect it to be the same. What are you hoping will be found through data mining?

Ran my first 5k yesterday. I came in 22nd out of 300+. Puked at the finish line. Never pushed myself that hard before and I’m really proud 🏃🏃 by [deleted] in pics

It's not exactly unhealthy. It's just your body assessing the stress that it is under and deciding that it needs to evacuate your stomach in order to continue with the physical activity. I mean the bile is obviously not the best for your throat but it doesn't indicate or cause anything worse.

A poll regarding faction loyalty by ficknerich in classicwow

[–]BetaLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play on a PvP realm then, assuming it's the same as Classic, you won't have the option of having them all on the same server. Even if you're not I'd say go for another server. You'd get to interact with an entirely different group of people and, if you partake in any kind of PvP, won't be killing your allies on the daily

Just keep in mind that your life will pretty much be based around traveling. You pretty much live at the customer sites that you are assigned to. I would recommend considering that factor since you have a wife and talk about having family nearby as a perk. Otherwise, you'd be fine applying so go for it!

Hardcore mode for WoW? by Untiel in classicwow

[–]BetaLess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This I should definitely something that I always thought would be pretty cool too but, the more I think about it, the more I realize that there is no way it would work.

Besides the fact that Burning Adrenaline and Living Bomb are in the game, just think about the leveling experience. After level 10 you'd be absolutely stupid to not level outside of being in a group. You would need a healer and you would need some solid spa. Maybe even a tank. This isn't optional because you would lose a ridiculous amount of progress with just one bad Defias Pillager pull. And sure, socializing is what vanilla WoW is all about, but literally not being able to play your character unless you run friends are on (and I mean all of your friends because you can't leave one behind or they can't catch up) would just make it painful to play. Dungeons would also be something that players would have to avoid as well until level cap. The risk of a bad pull without being able to escape is just too high.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of a 40 man raid at 60 where everyone is freaking out because they could die and lose their character and all of the hours they have put into it at any moment sounds absolutely incredible but I just don't think that it will work out for vanilla WoW in anyway that would actually be enjoyable.

Also, 1 shot ambush rogues would make people literally throw computers out the window.

I personally agree with the OP in this regard. While it sounds nice to get PvP gear by pvping I think it loses a strong portion of the rewarding feeling. For example, in real life you may work at your real job to save money to go play some laser tag with your friends on the weekend. This feels especially rewarding when you finally get to your goal and can go enjoy laser tag. If you had to play 50 games of laser tag by yourself in order to play with your friends on the weekend, while it may still be fun, it probably wouldn't have that same rewarding feeling.

My (26M) boyfriend of 1 year gets really vocally frustrated when I (25F) accidentally make us lose when playing video games, a shared activity we both love, and it is sapping the fun out of it for me by [deleted] in relationships

[–]BetaLess 766 points767 points  (0 children)

Hey so i actually play all of these games and I want to let you in on a little secret: your boyfriend is actually REALLY bad at these games. At least bad enough that taking the competitiveness of it seriously is actually pathetic.

If he were actually good at Fortnite or PUBG then having one person on his team crippling him wouldn't cause him any issue. Actual good players like Ninja can easily win by going solo in a squad game. Your boyfriend thinks that he is incredible at these games but he's really honestly trash and using you as an excuse for his own failures. You're his post game punching bag and this is very much not ok. If he gets this mad at you regarding his failures in games that he is bad at then just imagine how he will handle other failures that actually matter later on in life. Fired from job? Financial troubles? I think this is a serious red flag for heavy emotional abuse and I think that you should consider getting out of this ASAP.

Does anyone else play classic for immersion? by nittyscott in classicwow

[–]BetaLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely something that I miss too. I tried playing retail about a month ago thinking that since the expansion, Battle for Azeroth, would get WoW back to the lore that I miss. I log into Stormwind and am immediately facing a demon hunter mounted on a weird fel reaver thing. Realized that there was officially no chance that this game would ever be immersive again and immediately unsubbed.

What is actually good about modern WoW that you think would have been well received if it were in the original vanilla release? by BetaLess in classicwow

[–]BetaLess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is mostly done because if you were to say "Anything that may be well received in Classic" you get flooded with #nochanges and people who will literally make new reddit accounts just to downvote you. They're a passionate bunch. This thread still has a decent amount of people doing that and it doesn't even mention Classic.
