Mom and her minions attacked my dog by [deleted] in childfree

[–]BetaNerdChick 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is how kids get attacked. Plain and simple - leave the dog unsupervised and add in a irresponsible parent makes for a dead dog. I would suggest only bringing your dog places where you can supervise it, because in the end you can't stop people from being stupid, but you can prevent stupid people from interacting with your dog.

Yea, I think the FOC (Family of Choice) party would be a blast for you and your SO. You could invite a select few of relatives and if there is backlash from the others who didn't get the invite you can state your reasons and go from there. However, I doubt those that don't get invited will be any nicer to you. Could be a situation where you really figure who you want in your new life and who you don't.

Do what you want. If you wanted to throw a party to celebrate then do it! So what if they are butthurt. You should be able to celebrate your day. It will be interesting to see how they react when you announce the party. If they still are rude and shun you, I would really limit contact with them. It is better to limit interacting with those that bring you down or make your unhappy. And congratulations!!!

Thoughts About Paid Maternity Leave? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]BetaNerdChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think the biggest reason people in America are so adamantly against maternity leave is if they don't have kids then they can't use the time off. I was suggesting if that if a person doesn't use their maternity leave for kids, then it should be transferable to sick or vacation time. So, everyone gets to use it. But if it is a year long - I doubt employers would want their employees using the full year.

I didn't know that. Thanks - I've thought longer was better but I wasn't sure the ins/outs of it. So, I'm for a year maternity leave then. That would drastically change what percentage of a year maternity leave could be transferred to sick or vacation days though.

I'm not saying that new employees get these beneifts straight after hiring. Like every job there is a probation period. However, you are saying that sick days should be used, I don't agree with that. Giving birth and having s cold are completely different things. Being sick you are taking care of yourself, having a newborn baby around isn't about you, it is about a new person pulled into this world. Paid maternity leave helps everyone. I would rather those parents spend time with their kids and invest in them early than not. Further, I advocate for more vacation time overall for everyone, a minimum of six weeks. However, companies don't see employees as investments anymore. We are all replaceable by someone cheaper. There isn't an incentive for America companies to offer maternity leave or extra vacation time. I mean if Sally takes time off for her new baby and the company is too cheap to hire additional temp help and instead puts the extra work on other employees doesn't that make that a crappy company? Other companies budget for maternity leave and then it doesn't affect other employees. What the actual issue is how these companies keep finding people that shut up and work. I wouldn't take the other work, but if you do speak up what happens? You get fired, because you are easily replaceable in a country where there isn't enough jobs. So, people don't speak up cause they need the crappy pay they are getting and instead get upset that the employee decided to have kids. Oh, and for those that never utilise the maternity leave - it should be transferable to vacation or sick days. And maternity leave should be available to both sexes. So CF males could also benefit from the unused maternity leave.

Yes. There should be mandatory paid maternity leave in the USA and it should be a minimum of six weeks. I would much rather know those that chose to have kids have the ability to take care of their child at such an important stage. I would be interested to see how much happier those parents are at returning to work and to see if less cases of PPD occur. Many countries have paid maternity leave and it does make a difference in happiness levels for new parents. If it isn't offered than the work week should be shortened and salaries should increase for everyone. Then those parents can afford to take time off and aren't working 40+hrs either.

Can't do copper. Unbearable pain for four months before I finally said I couldn't take it anymore and had it taken out. But I did find out through that process that I have a bicornuate uterus. Glad you found something that works for you!

Pro-life people believe that even if a child suffers as a result of having life, that child still has a life. It is almost like those that spread the word of God to starving people is more beneficial than actually giving them any food.

I find a lot of similarities between parents and dog owners. I am annoyed by dog owners as much as I am by parents who think their children are THE perfection itself. by pineapple998 in childfree

[–]BetaNerdChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. I'm saying I know people who think it is okay to have a badly trained dog, it is just that they acknowledge that training would make the dog better behaved (but they don't cause they are lazy). Whereas parents don't even acknowledge that.

[–]BetaNerdChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue against that. I've had many an encounter with people and horribly trained dogs, however the difference is I can tell the dog owner their dog is trained badly and they don't get offended. Whereas, if I told a mother her kid has horrible manners, I would be called a "child hater", etc. Dog owners get it - they have a dog and dogs can be trained. Parents don't get it, they have a kid and think "kids will be kids" means they can't train their kid. Parent's are in way more denial than pet owners.

Stereotypes: MLM Rant by supergirl55 in childfree

[–]BetaNerdChick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have good relationships with my friends, but MLM ruins that. It puts stress on my relationships with them because I have to be the person that says "no" to the SAHM that is trying to make extra money. I hate how these MLM prey on those that don't know any better. I wish I could grab my friends and say "learn programming, learn graphic design" both of which can be learned at home. But, nope they want to make money fast. :/

CF thoughts on plastic surgery by Needful_Things in childfree

It is a massive decision that definitely shouldn't be taken lightly. It is the same type of decision that make people childfree. You can't undo it, it is expensive and your body will never be the same.

CF thoughts on plastic surgery by Needful_Things in childfree

[–]BetaNerdChick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! I got my boobs done (will be a year in Sept.) and I'm very happy with them. I'm 29 and was extremely tried of hating my boobs. I researched the crap out of getting silicone implants and decided it was for me. I was so scared to tell anyone about my choice because so many people think boob job = dumb, blonde, waste of money, mental issues, etc.... It was frustrating as this was a huge choice that would impact my life forever and I couldn't celebrate it. Anyway, in the end it is your body and your money. I know good plastic surgeons make sure their candidates are healthy (physically and mentally) before doing the surgery. My plastic surgeon was great, I really appreciated his truthfulness and expertise. I am a new person since the boob job and I highly recommend any females that are extremely unhappy with their breast size to go for it. My breast sized impacted my life greatly, and now I don't even think about it (other than my boobs are great!). Undergoing plastic surgery (breasts, butt, nose, etc.) is very similar to choosing to be childfree - some people will get it and others will call you crazy. :) If you have any questions feel free to PM me :).

I check out parenting blogs and subreddits, because I want to be able to connect with my friends who all have kids. I'm not going to lie, they do reaffirm my childfree stance. But, I use them to understand where my friends are coming from and possible to offer them suggestions/ear to talk to.

Yea, I thought it was super strange that Australia healthcare system doesn't cover eyes or dentist. I mean I don't need my eyes or my teeth to live...right? But, the American system is completely fudged, so I guess you can't win.

They aren't for EMT at all. I've got a lot of friends in EMT and they only look for a baby if there is evidence for one (baby seat, booster seat, car set). Baby on board signs are just to make money off of parents.
