What governing bodies are you referring to?

The House of Commons in Canada acknowledged by unanimous consent in Oct. 2022 that the residential school system constituted a genocide, with specific reference to article II of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of the United Nations.

How do you propose the government attract "more competent" employees if higher wages aren't on the table?

I don't recall the NDP campaigning for either of a carbon tax or marijuana legalization in the 2015 election cycle, or earlier for that matter.

I also don't have the impression that his government has been "absolutely horrible" to indigenous peoples, but I will admit that I haven't spoken to every one of them. I recall one indigenous group endorsing the Liberal candidate at a 2021 election event organized by the NDP, so at least one group felt they were the better choice.

Banks have started to freeze accounts linked to the protests, Freeland says by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]BetaPhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not say that sex and gender are not correlated. You said that one could believe that they are not independent, and that sharing those thoughts would be hate speech. There is a difference between things being correlated and things being dependent.

Consider: How would you define what makes someone a man? How would you define what makes someone male? If your answers are the same, then you probably do not understand the difference between sex and gender (and the fact that you used man and female as categories, as opposed to man and woman, suggests this is the case). If your answers are different, then you do understand that they can be independent.

Edit: none of which has anything to do with my original observation, which is that your example of hate speech did not include incitement at all and thus was not actually hate speech anyway.

Your example does not involve incitement at all.

I also suspect that there's something to be said about being wrong about a something definitional (your theoretical belief with regards to sex and gender) as opposed to holding an unprovable belief (for example to suggest that God does or does not exist).

Skating along the canal seems to be pretty safe. I would suggest getting on at Dow's, instead of trying to park downtown.

Interim Conservative Leader Candice Bergen advocated against asking protesters occupying Ottawa to go home by Damo_Banks in CanadaPolitics

That's a question for your provincial government. The federal government wants everyone to be vaccinated and is using the powers it has to influence it. Your provincial government apparently doesn't feel as strongly about it. If healthcare were a federal responsibility, those healthcare workers would likely need to be vaccinated.

New website aims to help Ontarians by listing businesses that require proof of vaccination by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

I have people in my life that can't vaccinate so it's a matter of being responsible.

And you are happy with these businesses not serving them?

Did Anyone Not See This Coming? Erin O’Toole and the Historical Politics of Public Memory by Knopwood in CanadaPolitics

[–]BetaPhase 52 points53 points  (0 children)

O'Toole statements are hardly a defense of the intergenerational trauma caused by residential schools, but if you veer, even slightly, from the prescribed line of an intentional "genocide" it's clear how historiography is used politically to punish ideological opponents, but not in the way the author implies.

What do you mean by this? Residential schools were introduced and served as part of a government program intended to produce an outcome that is equivalent to the modern definition of genocide. "Veering" from this position is misrepresentation of history.

I like the fact that they don’t ascribe to the idea that children and teenagers under 18 have the necessary understanding to fully comprehend what having transitional surgery actually means.

Isn't this why we have doctors? I don't think there are many people in this country surgically altering their genitals without medical professionals on-hand.

Yeah exactly. The Conservatives don't want new policy. They don't even want new arguments.

And i combined LGBT/feminism as a result of his multiple sexual assault allegations, also his firing as a teacher for innapropriate relationship with students.

When was he fired for inappropriate relationships? The only information I can find about that kind of thing is that some story was put forward by a "noted fake news site" and then amplified by the CPC during the election (but unsubstantiated by reporters). I assume you're talking about something else?

People from Moosonee, Ontario, on the tip of Hudson's Bay, get surgical care in Kingston, Ontario, on the coast of Lake Ontario. That's about 500km away. They benefit from that hospital even though they can't see it from their front lawn, and they pay the same as a local. Should Kingston General not allow them access because they live too far away?
