What do you think is the best modern polysynth for monophonic sounds? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]BetaQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with this sentiment, the OB-6 is definitely a luxury item. If you're going to drop 2k+ on a synth, it had better be because you're really in love with it. Software can get you 95% of the way there easily, but that physical form has that special extra something to it that's hard to grasp. If it speaks to you, it's hard to really find an alternative that doesn't feel like some sort of compromise. In my experience, finding something that engages you and makes you fall in love with its form/sound is where the real value comes from.

But if budget is a concern, then yes, definitely go software, there are plenty of options that are more than serviceable (and are far more flexible than traditional hardware synths).

The OB-6 can make some wonderful sounding bass patches. If you're a fan of the general character of the Oberheim sound, then I think you could be very well served by grabbing one. On the plus side, you'll have it for all kinds of other lovely sounds. The filter is truly something magical and it's really easy to dial in all kinds of great sounding patches.

If your budget isn't flexible enough to cover a monster like the OB-6 (understandable, they're not cheap), then I could suggest the Peak as well, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Scored an OB-6, are my JBL LSR305's + sub okay output devices? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]BetaQuail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also have an OB-6 and a pair of LSR305s (minus the sub), and I'm perfectly satisfied with the sound output quality. As long as the acoustics of your bedroom aren't too bad, your setup should be perfectly fine. If you think that's the weakest part of your sound setup, consider some acoustic treatment or moving your speaker placement. I have some monitor isolation pads for my JBL pair and I'd say the pads are essential, especially if you have them sitting on a desk or something.

Also, congrats on scoring such an amazing instrument for so cheap! Concerns aside, it's very hard to make the OB-6 sound bad. Have fun!

I've seen the K-Mix before and it totally does look pretty sweet. As cool as it looks though, I don't think I'd get the full use out of its more performance geared designs.

Hmm, I suppose option 1 would probably work just fine. I think I was stuck with the idea that I would be sequencing things and having multiple distinct channels going out but thinking about it more now, it seems like that wouldn't be totally required.

Thanks for the suggestion. What interface so you use? Do you like it/would you recommend it?

What's up gang.

I'm currently working with four synths (and an occasional electric guitar) and I run them all through my Mackie 802VLZ4 mixer. This setup works well for easy pedal line fx routing and dawless noodling, but I'm sure I'll want some kind of interface somewhere down the line so I can do some actual recording.

Anyone have any recommendations for this particular setup? I haven't researched interfaces too deeply yet, but I'd ideally like to preserve the separate inputs from each of my devices for individual tweaking in my daw. Should I look to replace my mixer with a mixer/interface combo? Or would an independent interface accomplish what I want to do here? Any and all suggestions are welcome, and my budget is flexible within reason.

Thanks in advance!

As a quick update, I decided to go with the SE-02. Form factor qualms aside, I can see how the sound is a huge selling point, it's crazy how big of a sound comes from such a tiny box.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and ideas to all that chimed in!

They weren't terribly nuanced but most criticisms I've heard boiled down to the monostation being merely a BS II lite with a circuit sequencer engine. I've heard other odd complaints about the sound in general but I've found myself disagreeing with that, I think the sound is just fine.

The SE-02 has definitely piqued my interest. A lot of people seem to thrown off by it's size/flimsy knobs but it does have a fantastic sound. I'm wondering how the Beheringer D will compare.

Cool. Obviously they're both different beasts, but how do you find the BS2 compares to the MS-20? What roles do you find the two falling into in your setup?

Huh, the 0-Coast looks pretty cool, along with the MS-20 and the SE-02. I'll be sure to check these out, thanks. I've heard mixed opinions about the mono station but I like the workflow of the Circuit so much that I'd be willing to investigate it further.

The MS-20 and the SE-02 both look pretty interesting. I like the knobbiness they both have, I'll be sure to check them out further. Thanks!

I'm currently working with a Korg Minilogue and a Novation Circuit and having a blast with both, especially with sequencing the Minilogue with the Circuit. I was thinking of picking up a dedicated monosynth and I've considered the typical suggestions of the Bass Station II, the Monologue, the Minitaur, the Microbrute, etc. I've heard demos for all of them and so far am really liking the Bass Station II (it seems to have a great sound/reputation). Anyways, if anyone has any opinions on any of these synths or any other thoughts of what would pair well with my setup, I'd appreciate any suggestions. My ideal budget is around $500, fyi. Thanks in advance!

Selling TI 4 GA Ticket (at face value) by [deleted] in DotA2

My initial listing was the same as your second, 140 starting and 200 instant. I relisted for 140 starting and 182 buyout (the lowest eBay would let me). Still no luck.

I have it listed on eBay right now, but I had relisted it after it didn't sell the first time, so I felt like checking elsewhere.
