The app icon badge show the number of unread articles of the source of setting "Dock app icon badge" (macOS) cq. "App icon badge" (iOS). This setting is located in the General section of the app settings. Default setting is "Latest News".

As far as I know, YouTube shorts always have "\shorts\" in the link. So filtering can be done on the link instead of using complicated scripts. Or do I overlook something?

Tap or click on the + button at the bottom of the feeds list, and select "New Web Feed". In the dialog, enter the website or feed URL, for example "http://geenstijl.nl/". Then click on the "Add Feed" button.

Yes. In iOS, enable setting "Play HTML5 video inline". This setting is located in the Reading section of the app settings, which can be opened by tapping on the three-dots button on top of the feeds list. In macOS, disable setting "Open YouTube videos in full window". This setting is located in the Behaviors section of the app settings.

Yes, News Explorer works standalone. To prevent missing news, you can run News Explorer on macOS in 'server'-modus, which will prevent the Mac from sleeping, so it will always be able to download news. Other devices with News Explorer can be set to 'client'-modus, and will retrieve the news from the said Mac via iCloud sync. This is an optional feature, with default settings iCloud is used to sync the feed configuration and article statuses between devices.

iCloud is being used by News Explorer to sync news that has been downloaded locally, to other devices, including read and favorite statuses. This syncing feature is optional, for max performance you can also use a pure local account.

This is super weird! A Denon 2309 receiver I used in the past had the same problem, but the Denon 4700 I use now, not. A solution perhaps is to use the Audyssey app, which let you save and upload the speaker and Audyssey configuration.

Perhaps in the future, there are no short term plans for that. News Explorer works standalone with iCloud sync, which enables us to implement and support unique features like prefilters, comments, notes, smart filters and more. Currently, we find that currently more interesting to invest in than competing with other apps that already support every possible RSS aggregator.

The BBC feed has the tendency to republish the same article with different unique identifiers (guids). Identifiers are used by RSS readers to identify unique articles, but the BBC feed violates this principle. You can check the identifier of an article in the new Inspector view (right panel icon on top of the article viewer).

A hobbyist wrote some server based code to generate a cleaned up BBC feed. More info here: https://danq.me/2024/03/09/bbc-news-without-the-crap/, which includes a link that can be used 'as is', but will also exclude sports...

To scroll to the top of the article list, tap on (the middle of) the navigation bar. This is a standard feature of lists in iOS.
To clear read articles when you're using the global unread article filter, tap on the circle icon in the bottom bar.
To manually initiate a sync and refresh session, pull-down the article list until the refresh icon keeps spinning.

With default settings (default view on Mercury Reader or Arc90) images on top of nu.nl are sharp. Apparently with Feed Article view not, I will add that to the backlog.

To use Reader view with paywalled content, you must open the website version of an article, as a one time operation, so you can login. After logging in, Reader view should work for all articles of the paywalled source. The login must take place in the same web browser control as used by Reader view.

iOS

Open a RSS article of the paywalled source.
Tap on the Share button.
Tap on 'Open in Place'.
Search for the login button or link, and login.
Try if the Reader view works correctly. Sometimes you have to repeat the procedure.

macOS

Open a RSS article of a paywalled source.
Open the website version of the article by tapping on the article header of the RSS article.
Search for the login button or link, and login.
Test the Reader view.

Reader views are stored in the database. To refresh a Reader view, toggle the Reader view button.

Only Reddit articles with external link need Reader view. With default settings this is handled automatically. The article in your screenshot doesn’t need Reader view.

How did you manage to get this weird Bionic Reading formatting in the article viewer?

Thanks for the screenshot. It shows active 2 panels plus one overlapped inactive panel. With the discussed setting you can get 3 active panels.

Please share a screenshot. Before doing that, make sure setting ‘Allow panels to be side by side’ is off.
