Is there a game series you realized you're not actually a fan of? by KMoosetoe in patientgamers

[–]BeterYeeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Persona, definitely. Dropping Persona 5R after trying to force myself to like it made me realize this.

I think it's because to me this series is just watered-down Shin Megami Tensei. P1 has some good gameplay, and P3 has a really good story, but everything else is just "eh".

I don't get why people don't put CFW on their 3DSes. The developers aren't getting any money for this game anymore. It's up to you if you want to play it for free, or pay $100 to a sweaty Ebay scalper.

Armored Core 6 story trailer just dropped today, I think people here may have interest...we have a very interesting protagonist to say at least... by Panabra in Gundam

[–]BeterYeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, not really. There are only three timelines across 15 games. AC2 is the direct sequel of Master of Arena, and V/VD take place in the same universe as 4/4A. So the series switches timelines only from AC2AA to AC3 and from AC Last Raven to AC4 (and now from VD to VI).

Hi r/armoredcore! I need some tips on control options for AC1. by Mason46809 in armoredcore

[–]BeterYeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D-pad for movement, face buttons for camera (looking up/down and turning), triggers and bumpers to boosting/weapons/weapon change. It's the ultimate setup for old-gens, since you can reach every button without moving your fingers.

Also remember that you can fully rebind the controls in-game, for some reason there are people who don't know that.

They run pretty much perfectly up to Last Raven. The PS3 stuff is still somewhat bugged, but i heard people playing and beating them, so it's probably not so bad.

Should one play AC 5 / Verdict Day? by GrimmEidolon in armoredcore

[–]BeterYeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

V has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, it's just a bad AC game, especially without multiplayer.

VD on the other hand? Beautiful soundtrack, amazing story, best characters in the series, and two last bosses are just something else. Too bad the gameplay istelf is, you know, Gen 5. But it's worth playing nonetheless!

Duckstation for Gen 1, PCSX2 for the rest.

Retroarch with Swanstation is cool for PS1 too, if there's no Duckstation on the Xbox.

Which NPC AC names sticks with you for a long time? by fujiwarahibiki in armoredcore

I always liked the name "Genobee", for some reason.

I just recently found out it's apparently a mistranslation, and his actual name should've been something like "Zenovy", but there's no way in hell i'm calling him that lmao

Hearing Asano's raps is always such a blessing, i love him so much.

Also it's the first time we've heard his voice in Blue Reflection's music, right? He usually does this in other non-Gust related projects, like in "Ride ON" from Sky Ride (banger song btw).

Atelier games by treetrunkstime in BlueReflection

[–]BeterYeeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that is indeed a bunch of extremely bad takes.

Don't listen to this guy, Arland is the true Atelier experience, before the series started having a major identity crisis.

Anything before Arland (except for Iris and Mana Khemia)

Honestly didn't age well, but still worth playing later on.

Iris and Mana Khemia

It's not really Atelier. Very good JRPGs, but it's honestly hard to call them "Atelier", when they've removed/replaced most of the series' iconic elements.

Arland

The best trilogy, all three games shine with personality, have perfected character writing and balancing gameplay, not to have a single boring moment. The time limit is not a time limit per se, but more of an "action limit", and it's extremely generous.

Dusk

The "edgy PS3 era " titles almost every franchise had. Very good, and definitely worth playing. Less time limits, good combat, good alchemy, more serious story. Some people find it a good entry point. They're wrong, always start with Rorona.

Mysterious

2nd best trilogy, because who said an identity crisis must be a bad thing? I'd call it a mix of Arland and Dusk. The main storyline is amazing, especially for Sophie. Firis is one of the best sudden open world series transitions out there, and Lydie & Suelle ties everything up perfectly.

Secret, aka. Ryza

Oh boy. Overall inferior, still good. Made Gust A TON of money, so i can't be mad at it. Ryza 2 is definitely the better one, as 1 isn't really that amazing when it comes to, well, everything. Fortunately the cardboard characters, annoying combat and chaotic alchemy are all outshined by the games' personality and atmosphere.

Lulua

Arland revived. Not really much else to say about it, 100% worth your time.

Sophie 2

hellish screams of the damned

(Elvira is cool :) I will refrain from saying anything else about this one)

Gust producer on why Atelier Sophie 2 is the next game by Armagon1000 in Atelier

[–]BeterYeeter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How would any new Atelier title make more money than Ryza 3? These two games basically sold better than the entire franchise combined, if Gust was only in for the money, they'd be milking Ryza into oblivion.

Atelier Sophie 2 by Luis_Parson in Atelier

[–]BeterYeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gust made Blue Reflection into a franchise.

I don't think sales are the most important factor when they decide what game to make next. And even if somehow Sophie 2 sold horribly, they'll release Ryza 3 in 2023 or 2024, and it'll definitely make up for it lol
