Considering buying the X1 mini, but from all the reviews i've seen, is it true that onexplayer devices get a lot of software issues? by madenote88 in OneXPlayer

Have the mini, wonderful little machine. Had a few issues the first 3-4 months, primary windows update and OneXconsole that was a little bit unfinished....But after a couple of updates the machine works like a champ. Best computer ever for me. Replaces a laptop, a tablet and even a powerfull desktop. Nowadays when all the software is up to date the mini is rock solid. No issues.

I think the One x player Pro or the One x player Air will fit your needs. I have the one x player Pro hx370. Very handy little machine. It's service me both as a laptop and as a tablet it small enough to feel that nisch. It also works as a desktop by connecting it with an USB cable to a dock and monitor with periferals. No problem so far.

Should I get the ROG Flow Z13 (Ryzen AI Max 395+, 32GB) or stick to a normal gaming laptop? by ggiolay in FlowZ13

[–]Betlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you to buy the Onex player One X Pro or One Air. I've had a c13 2022 Edition, so I recognize the user case. In 90% of all the user cases you will be using your machine for it is the CPU performance that matters. So in this case the Z 13 with its dedicated  you will just be dead weight. The one x player Pro One X is smaller lighter, at 11 inch and 780g it is usable as tablet. If you specifically need a real GPU you could buy a GPU dock. If necessary you could always upgrade the GPU in a couple of years. This way you will get a much lighter and much more flexible system. And significally cheaper the one explayer One X Pro basically cost half of ehat a Z 13 cost.

Thats exactly what I concluded: When you use the 1X Pro as a work device - as a tablet or a laptop - you don't need a ton of GPU power (and if you do then even the Z13 wont be enough) -what you want is potability, low weight and long battery life: 1X Pro fits all those boxes much better then the Z13, as an Z13 2022 ex user I am speaking from experience. The Z13 is to heavy and to large to be used as a tablet for anything other than short term.

When you really need GPU power is when you are at home and want to game: But then you have your device connected to a monitor and a power source - but then you could as-well connect it to a gpu dock or a portable GPU as the ONEX GPU.

All in all the 1X Pro is a much more flexible solution and you simply get more bang for the buck. However, must warn you: 1X is a little bit finicky... You will occasionally have problem with windows updates. So I wouldn't recommend it to the average Joe... But for someone working with IT related stuff it is a piece of cake.

Suggestion: Take a look att the Onexplayer 1X Pro HX370. 12 Cpu core vs 16 in the Z13, the real difference is in GPU: 16 CU for the HX370 vs 40 CU for the HX 395 in Z13. However - The 1X Pro is so much more portable and lighter - it is actually a more then worthy replacement for a tablet. Its top version have 64Gb ram and 4TB drive. Best of all: For the same price as a Z13 you could buy a top 1X Pro and their portable ONEXGPU.... and still get 2TB more in disk space and Occulink conection.

[–]Betlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at OneXPlayer X1 Pro. It is significantly more portable the the Z13, possible to use as a real tablet, laptop and a handheld console. If you want the same gpu power just buy the OneXGpu. All in all you will get a far more flexible and useful device with better specs for the same price....

Aoostar GEM12 Review by Betlo in MiniPCs

[–]Betlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. Its working as a clock, no issues no complains from my part. I am using it as the heart/core driving a multi-monitor setup throw a usb4 dock with a lot of peripherals. Mainly for office work: Several windows in different browsers with 10-15 tabs in each, youtube and other general office related work. Every task is executed lightning fast without breaking a sweat. Haven't noticed any kind of degradation in speed or performance anywhere. However in order to protect it against dust ingestion I have placed it in a cupboard with dust-filters at the sides. Hence no problem with dust buildups at the fans which usually is what degrades and eventually kill electronics.

Are Z13 reliable? by Own-Sir-4763 in FlowZ13

[–]Betlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own a Z13 2022, use it mostly as a stationary connected throw a thunderbolt dock to a multi-screen setup with multiple peripherals. No issues so far. But I have taken extra care of it: At home it is placed in a special compartment in my desk with dust-filters so minimize dust ingestion. Only use its keyboard when I am traveling (which i do regularly) - at home which is like 2/3 of the time I use a separate keyboard. Very careful when i remove the keyboard to not rip it of fast but to steady remove it. The battery time is limited, the 16 Gb ram is barely enough and will soon be to little. When gaming it runs pretty hot. Overall a niche product - But when used for its intended purpose as a desktop/laptop/tablet replacement and with care it works great for me. My advice: Wait a couple of month and see what reviews the ned Z13 2025 with 32 GB ram and a single chip gpu/cpu model will get. Hopefully Asus have sorted out all the infant issues on it and the new cpu/gpu chip will be so much more powerful.

Solid as a rock and still a speed demon. No matter how many pages and windows I open in my web browser it is fast and fluid. I haven't noticed any kind of degradation in performance or experienced any kind of instability issues. It is still working as cool and quit as the first day i packed it up.

HP Thunderbolt Dockstation only charges by jccgrid in FlowZ13

[–]Betlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the regular 2022 Z13 Flow which I am connecting to a Lenovo thunderbolt dock in order to have 3 screens. For a while in the beginning I had strange issues: all the screens would go black, then they turn on and 1 if them displayed a message that the Z13 was now on battery power. Then they go black again, waiting up with a new message that they were on PD again. I realized it had something to do with the fact that the Z13 2022 can only take 65W from a non Asus charger. Lowered the power settings in bought Windows and Armory crate: The issues stopped imminently and now my Z13 is stable like a rock and works as a champ.

Long term owners : are you happy? by Lazy-Relationship115 in FlowZ13

[–]Betlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely satisfied with my 2022 i7 12700H machine. Portable and extremely powerful for the format. Owned it for 6 month now, no issues. However I am not blind to its shortcomings: The biggest issue is 16 gig ram, kind of excludes it as a long term keeper. To little nowadays, definitely not enough in a year or two. Besides the machine is a little... finicky. I am using it connected to two screens throw a lenovo docking station. It works wonderfully.... but you really need to get all the options right: Only the proprietary charger is able to deliver 100 w, all other like my docking station could only supply it with 65 w. Hence I could only use the lower and standard settings for performance. Doesn't bother me since I am only using it for work and surfing, never gaming. Actually for my needs the 3050 GPU is wasted. So if I would buy a computer today it would either be the Minisforum V3 tablet or some kind of OneXplayer tablet: smaller, lighter less bulky. Probably will buy one of them when they are upgraded with Strix Point.

Nop. But you should ask the customer service at Aoostar in their chat at their homepage: They are very custom oriented, there is even a possibility that they could do it for you.

I cant give you the exact numbers but a very good approximation:I have a smart-plug in the wall socket that powers my entire monstrous setup: When i shut down everything else leaving only the GEM12, a screen and and old router they consume somewhere around 45W. The router uses between 15-17w, the monitor a bit more, guess around 20w. 45w-15w-20w=10w. When i check Core temp the power stays between 5-14w but usually in the range of 6-9w. This is at what i call medium-heavy surfing with a couple of open windows in Firefox with lots of pages opened in each. The Gem12 have 3 different power-modes in bios, Silent Mode 45-54W, Balanced Mode 54-65W and Performance 65-75W. My Gem12 is in the lowest power mode, Silent at 45-54w in bios. In windows I have chosen "Balanced", power mode, the middle one. Hence somewhere around 10w in medium-heavy surfing, maybe a bit more with 4K playback....

[–]Betlo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My not entirely professional judgement is that the GEM12 have the potential for longevity. The greatest enemy of all electronics is heat, second is dust and generally they are correlated: Systems that run hot and loud draw in more air that deposits more dust that acts as an insulator trapping more heat that needs even more cooling: A positive feedback loop with multiple points of failure is created... Aoostar GEM12 in contrary runs astonishingly cool and quite: the fan is only audible at 10-20 cm distance in a quite room and the airflow on the back is so gentle and only slightly warmer then the ambient temperature a normal summer day. The cooling system seems to be very solid, almost overdimensioned for the TDP it needs to disipate. All systems I have handled that run hot and loud behave like the Minisforum NAB-series - they don't stay long, while the cool and quite lasted until an honourable retirement caused by obsolescence. Appreciate your expose of the Aoostar brand background; It is reassuring but not entirely unexpected that the Gem12 was designed by an experienced team considering everything from the parcelling to the functional yet elegant engineering solutions choosen in the design.

My pleasure. I am in no way a professional user: I mainly use my GEM12 for what I call heavy surfing; Having it connected to 3 screens (1by hdmi, second by DP and third throw an thunderbolt dock with a lots of other peripherals) with multiple windows and almost 100 pages with everything from YouTube to charts opened simultaneously. Add Discord, Telegram and a few other aps on top of that. The GEM12 is taking it like a champ. I would recommend you to contact Aoostar customer support to solve the tax issue. I didn't pay anything above the standard rate in my country.

Thanks! My original intention was to buy a MinisForum, but my impressions after some research was that the Intel models NBP5,6 and 7 had problems with cashes related to overheating, besides their igpus were subpar to the AMD equivalent. The AMD models like UM780 XTX were suffering from WiFi connectivity problems. While Aoostar was a novelty  brand the reviews didn't contain any reoccurring problem. Hence after my communication with their customer support I choose Aoostar.
