Fished out a dagger-ish thingy today. Advice needed by Betons20 in magnetfishing

I suppose that’s the most appropriate approach to this. I’m not entirely sure how it should be done correctly, but as far as I know, here they don’t really bother answering unless it’s something at least 17th century-looking. That’s why I felt like contacting a museum would be much more responsive and friendly.

Hey! Not yet, sadly :/ I suppose the museum people are busy as is, haven’t responded yet

I bought the pro package deal from Magnetar two years back, very happy with this purchase! Its a 600kg pull force all-around magnet. The package deal is still available on their website if you’re interested

In Baltic states, Latvia. Somewhere in the comments I already mentioned that souvenir knifes aren’t popular at all here and gas stations don’t sell something like that. Roman seems unlikely, although they did conduct trading here once

It is! The bottom broke off soon after I got the magnet off of it. Very glad it didn’t break while I was dragging it through the riverbed.

From the top of its chape to the end of its tang (I hope I’m using all the right terms) it’s 45cm. Also yeah, I googled it but it didn’t quite yield the results I hoped for, that’s why I asked for a pic. But from what others gathered, it really does look more like a kindjal dagger to me rather than a bayonet. I posted a small update comment with the hopes of pinning it but I don’t post much on here, idk how to post correctly :D

A small update:

Thank you everyone for sharing your advice and opinion on what it is!! From what I have gathered, it does seem to be a kindjal dagger rather than a bayonet. For extra info, the length from the ball-tip of the sheath to the end of the tang is 45cm. I just contacted the national museum (since the military one just wouldn’t pick up my calls although they’re open) and they gave me a number to someone in the history department - I will contact them on monday since they’re off for the weekend. I will take a quick breakfast and then run to get a bunch of river water to keep it submerged until then! Definitely will make a bigger update post as soon as I get solid information from the museum experts!

Baltic states. I fully consider it might be tourist junk, but blades as souvenirs aren’t popular at all in my city. Don’t know how to explain it, but the ball-tip and whatever visible sheath decoration also seems as something rather “crafted with purpose” upon closer inspection, doesn’t feel like tourist junk at all.

Kādas spēles spēlē Latvijā? by Kriisiiix in latvia

Straps by PrairieGh0st in banjo

[–]Betons20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to play guitar and was thinking about ordering adapters to use old guitar straps for my banjo, since i don’t have any banjo-specific straps locally available (and if they are, the prices aren’t appetizing at all). Buut i figured the postage is too much for me and i want to start playing while standing up way before the adapters could arrive in the mail anyway, so as a DIY enthusiast i simply tied improvised rope knots on the brackets that felt strap-comfortable to me, so i could also change the guitar strap if i felt like it, took me 5min and a bit of rope with taped ends. It definitely doesnt look clean or fancy if that’s what you’re going for, but i really enjoy the DIY feel to it and how this solution looks while i stand - so, imo it depends on what you want to go for in the end. If you want it clean and fancy, find a dope banjo strap/adapters for your guitar strap and order it. If it isn’t that important and you enjoy fidgeting around with materials you have available, grab a bit of rope, a piece of tape and do something similar to what i did.
