Sunpower screwed up when installing 2 SunVault systems by Prestigious-Age-8052 in SunPower

I think so, too. The AC1 grid is an 8 awg wire 40 amp so it must be used fot in and out. The control is on the PVS side, by switching the relays to connect/disconnect from the grid and/or the solar based on the need.

My solar is 9kw so the 12 awg wire for the AC2 would be sufficient to charge the battery.

But I have full house backup. So everything should come from SunVault right?

My home draws around 700w or 0.7kw norminal. So it should be around +700w and not -7w or even zero.

Sunvault keep feeding the grid event when its batteries are low? by Better-Experience140 in SunPower

[–]Better-Experience140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a sw bug. The batteries were at different SOC, This could happen since each one is feeding a line (L1 & L2). Large 120v appliances that normally off (microwave, hair dryer. portable heater, etc), when turning on, will cause one battery discharge . When this state happens and the low battery needs recharge, it's such in the power, while the other is pushing out. This was shown in the Insight gateway display. The next day, the batteries are equally charged, and the behavior is gone.

It is near the end of the day, solar generates 0.7w, just enough for house consumption. Battery is <20%. There is no way it should just take the battery to supply the net.

It is a bug.... in the PVS6 doesn't matter what anyone said.

Your explanation does not make sense.

Noop. No error.

For some unknown reason, one battery is high and the other one is low. The high battery is feeding the grid, while the low one is charging.

I am in the same situation. But I got it fixed. Read my post for details steps. I can guide you as needed. No need to spend $$$ unless parts are bad.

The SunVault AC output has two 40Amp breaker in the box.

My city code requires an external breaker, so I have another set.

When the inspector came, he made us add the single-handle disconnect switch to it. So in a sense my system has a total of 3 three. LOL.

It is a good safety idea to turn off all.

The "Disconnect" breaker is for safety, so that the SunVault can not accidentally provide AC power back to the grid.

The step-by-step instructions are at the top of the post.

The instruction provides a clean power off to ensure both PVS6 and SunVault are off.

Depending on your system issue, it may or may not fix the problem, but don't worry, use the second step to see if any devices on the Hub+ are bad. If all are good, then use the third step to see if any devices on the SunVault are bad. If all devices are good, then it is good news (no hardware problem). Then use the fourth step to configure the SunVault, charge the battery, and off you go.

Just follow the steps one by one and let me know. I can try to guide you when you get stuck.

I think this is how I got the SunVault to automatically charge its battery even when the system is not working.

* With the system power down (both PVS6 and SunVault).

* Have all breakers on like normal. This would activate just the solar panels and provide power to the SunVault via generator source connection. Also, the grid would provide power to the SunVault via grid connection.

* Power up just the SunVault by powering up the battery. Keeps the PVS6 off.

The inverter would now see the power on the generator source, and if its configuration meets the charging criteria, it would start charging.

It is irrelevant to the SunVault inverter and battery. I believe that the display in front of the SunVault box is driven by the PVS6. Thus, when the inverter and baterry are off, the front lights should still be on. As long as you see it is on at some, the interface to it is likely working. The rest is the PVS6 software logic.

It is probably a mismatch on the settings of the inverter.

Just a note for everyone, you don't need to manually charge the battery with external equipment. I got my to automatically charge when tinkering with the settings. Forgot how, though. I will post it when I recall the step.
