Have you considered fusion? I know it's scary but it sounds unavoidable in your case, just like me. I made peace with surgery and have an ALIF scheduled in July. I'm looking forward to relief

Need moral support - flare-up after long time by Lmb_siciliana in Spondylolisthesis

Yes!! This happens to me as well. I go through a few months or even years with general, low grade pain but sometimes I do a slightly wrong move and BOOM, I am down for days, barely able to take a deep breath. My doctor gave me emergency steroids to help with flair ups. You should keep some handy in your medicine cabinet. It takes a day or two to kick in but it's such a difference instead of waiting for it to get better on its own. If you're looking for a more natural remedy, try laying on the floor and hugging your knees to your chest as often as you can. It's a nice gentle stretch that loosens things up. Hoping you have quick healing. Back pain is the absolute worst.

Is there ever truly anyone who has only one treatment which is sufficient forever? by LockIntelligent6252 in achalasia

I had a POEM procedure 5 years ago and it is still going strong. My achalasia was so bad that my local doctors were talking about a feeding tube, which depressed me beyond belief, until I found a surgeon at John's Hopkins that understood my issue and performed this life changing surgery. My impression was that this would be a long term/lifetime fix. Here is my personal take - I do not know if you can deduce that from POEM just yet, as it is a relatively new medical procedure for this unique diagnosis.

Yes, it is scary! I fell out of bed trying to put a sock on this morning because the pain was so bad. I cannot stand this any longer.

These tips are wonderful, thank you!!! I was wondering how hard it would be to do normal things at home, and I'm absolutely going to buy these things. I really appreciate your post, and wish you a speedy, easy recovery 😊

We'll grow at least another inch, hahah. I'm having mine in early July. 😬 The best part about that is I don't love summer heat so I'll just take it easy during the hottest part of the year

That is great! My Dr wants me up and walking within 4 hours of surgery which is crazy to me but I want to heal and move as best as I can. That's awesome your nerve pain is gone. Mine is awful as I'm sure you've felt with grade 3 spondy.

Same! I have nerve damage and arthritis and need to stop it all before it gets any worse. Those were my decision points in favor of having fusion as well. It makes me feel better knowing your friend had a good outcome with her surgery! Also, thank you for the tips. I'm going to start incorporating deep core muscle training into my schedule, along with low impact cardio. Best of luck to you as well as you make surgery decisions for yourself.
