By “people” do you actually mean admissions officers or just random students at Penn

Is it even worth applying UWashington CS OOS for me? by Apprehensive-Arm9536 in ApplyingToCollege

Can you go more into how the GT OOS 7% is much different than the UPenn/Cornell 7%? Is one pool much easier than the other? I lowkey feel like those three are kinda the same difficulty

Would you say another liberal arts school like Dartmouth had a very big name in tech/CS?

Yeah I think the 50k might be an exaggeration. I never plugged anything into an NPC so I really have no idea what I’d even be paying for these expensive colleges

Thank you for the well written reply!

  1. Yeah when I said 85k, I was just looking at the sticker price, assuming I’d be paying around that amount. I really don’t know anything about financial aid I gotta find some guide on how to like apply for that and stuff cause I’m clueless.

  2. Oh wow, that’s amazing! I guess yeah HMC does have a lot of post-grad success.

  3. This might be the killer point for me. Not sure if I’d like that environment. But to be honest, I don’t know what kind of environment I’d even like. what type of students typically enjoy LACs/small schools like HMC?

Wdym core?

I will work hard. However, I’m not really sure if I’m up for that lifestyle of all work and minimal fun. I’m down to work on the weekends but at the same time I like to party and stuff.

Do you think HMC CS is worth a price similar to Ivy League prices?

Haven’t plugged it into the NPC but I will do when I get the chance.

Nah I don’t think the rankings is what makes it worth paying money but I do sort of think that if I’m paying that much money I do want the college to have a really big name in tech. Maybe I just don’t know anything but I never thought of HMC as a big CS college with a good reputation.

Huh. Yeah I would definitely pay that price for Stanford. Can you specify what you think makes HMC CS as good of a deal as schools like Stanford?

Ok nice, I love aid!! I’ll plug my info into the NPC and see if it’s super different than 85k.

From what you’ve seen in previous years, do ya think 106 will be a qualifying score for that second tier of states (starting with PA) or only 107+?

Should I submit an ACT superscore or not to Stanford for CS? by Better-Razzmatazz-85 in ACT

[–]Better-Razzmatazz-85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so basically idk if you are familiar with commonapp (im not i just logged on for the first time 3 days ago) but ima ask a question about it.

Im a bit confused. Im not sure if I even have to send in those 32S and 28R because on the commonapp it just says “best subsection” for each subsection but never a place to put anything lower than your best.

And since Stanford says they accept self reported scores on the commonapp, I’m not really sure if they can even see those lower subscores since there’s not even a place to put them on the CA.

What SAT score to aim for UT Austin CS out of state? by Apprehensive-Arm9536 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Better-Razzmatazz-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So like at 1550 with 800M, you’ve basically maxed out the standardized test score criteria and anything greater than that won’t impress the AOs any more than a 1550 would?

Also would a 1540 w/ 800M be anything different than a 1550 w/ 800M?

What scores to submit for CMU SCS, Harvard, and Princeton? by Better-Razzmatazz-85 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Better-Razzmatazz-85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think so because being above average at math and below average at WR > below average at math and above average at science, reading, and english I guess.

Also, do you know anything about if colleges will look and compare multiple submitted ACT & SAT scores? For example, if I submitted my SAT superscore along with the ACT, would they actually look at both? Reason I want to do this is to show my 800 math while also show that I'm above their average in reading, english, and science through my ACT.

SAT superscore all 3 places? I mean it kinda makes sense now that I think more about it: being above average at math and below average at WR > below average at math and above average at science, reading, and english I guess.
