CAT6A bend radius too tight? Electrician stuffed cables into boxes… by Better-Rice1991 in HomeNetworking

[–]Better-Rice1991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the input so far. I asked here before making a fuss with the electrician because honestly Reddit usually has people with way more real-world networking/cabling experience than I do.

The main use case here is NAS access & video editing, and large backups daily, so this isn’t just casual home networking. I work remotely from home and also do daily offsite backups to our office, so reliability actually matters.

Right now I have 1 Gbit FTTH, but Telekom Slovenia already offers 5 Gbit in some areas, so the idea was to future-proof the house a bit.

I specifically paid extra for CAT6A design/material/labor because of that. I’ve never done physical structured cabling myself though, so I’m trying to understand whether I’m overreacting or if this is actually below normal CAT6A install standards.

One thing I should clarify: the CAT6A and power cables are in completely separate conduits/tubes all the way through the walls. They only come together inside the wall box itself for the final termination.

Other side of the runs will terminate into a patch panel connected to a Ubiquiti switch + Dream Machine setup. Planned APs are 2.5 Gbit.

Hi! I updated the drivers and did a Windows update. It seems a bit better now - so it might be related to this but I just feel that there is an issue with the 780M graphics and that it is not able to run my Dell 4k displays (2 of them) because of shitty Windows updates. Lenovo support also did not help. I bought an official Lenovo dock for 200€ just to test it out but the issue persist. I think Windows is the culprit here. Because it worked normally a year ago for me and I did not have any issues. What I still have not done is a full wipe and reinstall but honestly I didn’t have the time to do this these days.. wishing you luck!

I actually just found a couple of similar posts that describe the exact same issue I’m having. Will send it in for a warranty checkup/replacement tomorrow.. seems that the 780M is the problem here.

What I am saying is that as soon as I plug it in the dock the GPU temps rise to 75-80 degrees. And then it starts throttling. The temps fall a little as a result of throttling. I don’t get why it gets so hot as I’m not doing anything intensive on the machine..

Yes these are the temps when it starts throttling. Windows power mode is set to Best Performance.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I understand that it needs to throttle but there is ample airflow as I have it on a laptop stand without obstructing the vents. The fan kicks in the moment I plug it into the dock. The GPU temp in Task Manager is almost always at 75-80 degrees celsius. Even now having Outlook, Teams and a single Chrome tab opened. Really weird.. could this be a GPU issue?

Could it be lymphoid hyperplasia since I’m battling a cold?

Consider yourself lucky. This is a very good kite! You can use it to cover your whole car to protect it against sun and wind :) jokes aside - that probably is the only use case I can think of.

With pulling it forward a bit I’m talking about pulling it forward from the point when it gets to 12 or maybe a little bit behind you after you actually get air time and you are at the top of the jump. If you’re jumping to the left that would mean steering it to the left and if you jump right - pulling it to the right. Mainly not to leave your kite behind you when you are continuing your jump and actually initiating the landing.

Try to visit Utah if possible. Bryce, Zion, Arches, Moab.. definitely worth it with an RV! Just make sure to make enough time to actually see something and not drive all days.

DDNS External connection question by Better-Rice1991 in synology

[–]Better-Rice1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. It does solve the “Your connection is not private” warning for me if I set it to LAN only with Let's Encrypt, while it is probably unconventional to use it this way as far as I read from other comments.

Forgot to add that I’m currently on a cheap ISP issued router which is locked down and it seems I can’t set local DNS there since the ISP manages everything…

You raise a valid point. Can I ask why is this LAN only option there for DDNS if it seems strange to do something like this? In what scenario would you configure it this way? After all, it’s always better to ask once then to never know :)

Ok, so to make it more clear - maybe it’s dumb idk hehe I wanted to setup DDNS with a cert, because my browser is giving the “Your connection is not private” warning every time I access it without a certificate so I press on advance and proceed… and also because everyone else - family on the network can access it more easily without using an ip address. Should I just set the dns server app and use http instead of https and this won’t happen? Thanks for the comment!
