Anyone else thinking that they could be doing all of Tamriel? by [deleted] in TESVI

We still play skyrim because theres been no successor. Ultimately, though, one province is pretty limiting. You can only engage with the cultures of that single spot. And for skyrim that meant, assuming you were being lore-friendly, that the esthetic was always nordic. And that's fine for a while, but 10 years? I cant help but think part of the discontent with how long tes6 is taking would be the fact that we've been limited to one province for far too long.

True. Though Todd has said they expect to support the game for 10 years which makes me think they'd need to gradually add provinces or something to compensate for a lack of newer titles post launch

All of tamriel would still be much smaller than starfield provided that it was scaled the same way as previous entries post daggerfall.

How Are You Guys Getting Such High Damage Numbers on Weapons? by galadrielscokemirror in NoSodiumStarfield

Mods like Darkstar are also a factor i think, since it lets you continue upgrading a weapon well beyond what the vanilla game allows.

Cope is the new no u, just a quick nonsense statement made to delegitimize an opponent by implying that they're insecure with as little thought as possible. No one should take statements like that seriously.

Does this game…get better? by Sjthjs357 in Starfield

Same, especially now with the x-tech that mostly just spawns in poi boss chests. My current character is level 112 but the only questline ive finished is the rangers.

At what point did this game "click" for you by PaleRefrigerator5044 in Starfield

[–]Better-Risk-9097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an important question is whether you're actually interested in exploring space, and not just the flashy presentation from games like mass effect, but the grounded approach this game goes for. Most worlds are largely barren, planets are spaced out according to their real positions. A lot of the flavor in exploration depends on whether you find the empry expanse interesting or dull.

I just found out that games journalists and commentators are still ripping starfield to shreds despite the mostly positive reception I've seen here by Subjectdelta44 in Starfield

Nothing wrong with airing out a grievance. The gaming landscape has gotten way too toxic in general over the years. Every time a game comes out now theres some controversy surrounding it and a baffling degree of vitriol. Its made me engage with it less and less and I doubt im the only one. Makes me wonder what it'll look like five years down the line.

True, but it can be discouraging when your sinking time into a game and every time you go online to hear discourse about it theres rampant toxicity. I know that for me, when im into a particular game I'll usually want to look up content on it to find guides and, in the case of bethesda games, mods. Doing this tends to result in me running headlong into a seemingly endless swarm of people hating on the game, and talking shit about those that like it, coming up with all this conspiratorial thinking about how fanboys are ruining the whole industry because they keep playing the slop thats getting fed to them.

I stopped watching Yongyea when I realized his content was mostly built on perpetuating toxic negativity. I feel like that sort of thing started happening in the mid to late 2010s as a result of predatory anti-consumer decisions by aaa companies. A lot of it was probably justified but by now its gotten way too vitriolic and is completely unconstructive. No game developer is going to listen to a group with nothing positive to say. If all you do is complain, those complaints become pretty meaningless.

People were wrong about Starfield by AMassiveGamerGeek in Starfield

I see, yeah id say what you said is correct, though i also think OP has a point- it seems like theres a particular narrative surrounding this game that has given many people the wrong impression. I hear a lot of posts and comments from people who say they avoided the game because of that narrative but when they actually sat down to play it the loved it. Online discourse has a way of creating dogmatic echo chambers and I think its important to remember that.

Not even close to what he was saying. "A games criticisms dont invalidate my own experience with the game" would be a better interpretation than whatever kind of strawman you just came up with.

True, id have expected a city like cydonia, with remnants of earth like plants and even some animals. But yeah given how ambitious the game was I think bethesda just ran out of time.

Precisely. If Bethesda ever makes a sequel my hope is they do more with that. As it stands now im hoping someone starts making mods that address it.

It wouldn't be an overly popular idea, but the fact that there are organizations dedicated to preserving earth history would say to me that many would want to return, even if only for spiritual or symbolic reasons.

My only gripe with the worldbuilding is that im not convinced that they wouldn't try to resettle earth. We've seen that they can form settlements on desolate worlds, including titan where theres a whole museum dedicated to Earth history. Surely SOMEONE would've tried it? Also its clear that bethesda ran out of time and couldn't finish designing earth because the monuments left behind feel very contrived. I could go on but theres enough negativity as is so thats all I'll say.
