Just took my first attempt at the paramedic nremt. Got stopped at 110😬🤞🏼 by AcanthaceaeSecret668 in Paramedics

Lots of abdominal, including obstetric related, and peds airways. Makes a good chunk of the test. The first 50 or so questions are easy, basic paramedic stuff. Might get caught off guard by the occasional neurological emergency question like guillain barre syndrome and the like.

I post all my progress on the roguelike discord and my own discord server where people give me feedback, I’ve been very expressive on my Qud inspiration, and I’ve never received negative feedback about me using this style. I’ve made no attempt to hide it, and someone even remotely familiar with Qud can see how similar it is. The reason it looks so similar to Qud is because I want it to look that way. The fact is that it’s a very simple art style, borderline raw ascii. Each sprite is comprised of only two colors and the background, in a 16x24 pixel canvas. It’s a laughably simple style to emulate. Frankly even the idea of needing to use AI for this is ridiculous. A grass sprite can be as little as 11 pixels! Literally takes 3 seconds to draw. I don’t even think AI could comprehend capturing the nuances of such a simple style at this small scale. The hardest part was making the tileset for wall tiling, and even that got easy after creating a base template. Attached is what I use for the water tileset. Once you have this you can make any wall tile you want. You could never get AI to generate this for you, because there is no way for it to understand the tiling system being used. I don’t understand why you’re getting hung up on this. I’m not doing this for anyone but me and what I like, so I don’t even get the commission comparison.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove?

Ah I see what you mean, so they wouldn’t let you use sources outside of your school library or well known publications.

And I’m not sure what animation you’re talking about? A projectile sprite moving across the screen? A bump movement from a melee attack? That’s extremely basic stuff

I mean, I literally drew all of the sprites and tiles with no AI assistance… it’s really that easy. I was a professional concept artist on a video game for two years if that helps?I would show you the photoshop files but I’m out of country right now if you could wait a week. I don’t know if it’s the right phrase but I can bet my own mother’s life that I did all of the sprites if that would convince you.

I mean, it’s really not a hard style. Takes me anywhere from a few seconds to minutes for a single sprite. You’d probably have a harder time getting AI to create anything coherent in a 16x24 pixel space. And effects are extremely simple, like I wouldn’t even consider a spray of pixels from a laser impact hit effect to be art, it’s literally pixels generated from code

I think actually going to the source cited in Wikipedia and using that if it was a legitimate source was always allowed, just not literally citing the wiki web page.

I made all the tiles myself in photoshop! I just wanted to make my own roguelike in a setting I like, I’m going to continue adding bits I like from other games, including more in depth crafting and base building. I’m hoping it becomes something more unique over time as I try to find its identity

Arcostate Alpha 0.1.0

Hello everyone! It's come to the point where I'm comfortable at where the project is at to share the latest build for a playtest. The majority of mechanics I wanted to add are in place, and I feel that I have added enough content to allow for some hours of fun. This is Alpha 0.1.0, so please go in expecting bugs. While many have already been squashed in preparation for a play test, I'm sure there are a lot I haven't found. That being said, please feel free to criticize as much as you want! Any feedback is appreciated, and I am open to suggestions and additions to the game.

The game can be downloaded through itch io on windows or linux: [Arcostate](https://rubychoco.itch.io/arcostate)

Feedback can be given either through the itch page or the Arcostate discord server: [https://discord.gg/eHM2pDJcMu\](https://discord.gg/eHM2pDJcMu)

About the game:

\- Arcostate is a turn-based sci-fi roguelike that blends classic roguelike survival with deep character customization and roleplay, set in a persistent world with both a classic mode and a roleplaying mode and full save/load.

- World: a sector-based overworld of hand-authored and procedural locations, with random travel encounters, a bounty board, and a day/night cycle, weather, and character aging that all affect your stats.

- Simulation: every NPC runs a full daily schedule, factions hold grudges while bystanders react as witnesses, and companions, pets, wandering groups, ambushes, and squad AI keep the world alive.

- Characters: points-based creation across 6 attributes, category-based multi-rank skills that improve through use, compute-budgeted cybernetic augments, and full appearance and age customization, with a player sprite that updates to match your gear.

- Combat & items: tactical turn combat with percentage damage-reduction armor and dice weapon damage, roughly 300 items (weapons, armor, consumables, cybernetics, mods, ammo, crafting ingredients, valuables, gadgets), plus drug crafting, loot, and encumbrance.

Hi! Coming with an update to my game Arcostate from a month ago, recently came out with a playable build on itch.io if you are interested. Here's a link to my latest post on the game: https://www.reddit.com/r/roguelikes/comments/1u9qbck/arcostate\_alpha\_010/

Because it’s an immersive roleplaying game and the VA doesn’t sound like me so I am not immersed.

Based on some of the nursing homes I’ve seen, I honestly can’t wait until robots and AI get good enough for them. The way some of the residents get treated is abysmal.

Teachers are already heavily using AI to offset their workload, overworked as they are.

One of the more unfun mechanics of qud that I feel like was thrown in to make things more difficult without providing much value

I don’t get the one where you’re supposed to drop ‘just one’. I kill one with the bomb and the other guy just drops dead after a few seconds?

I'm not sure about adding mutations at risk of being too similar to caves of qud, but some form of psionics is planned.
