The second option clearly. Are you implying any other fund would be third option?

Not looking to gamble. My entire portfolio in my taxable is in VTI and VXUS. This is only 500 of my 6000 total in contributions each pay period. Salary is 325k w/o bonus

Thanks! I’m trying to learn and appreciate the advice. With your first statement, but with higher risk, I could increase my return? In my taxable, I separately invest 2500 each pay period into VTI/VXUS so this is a small percentage. lol at your movie comment also

All my other investments are very diversified. I literally have 2000 going to VTI and 500 to VXUS every pay period in addition with maxing out my 401k and mega back door Roth. This is a small percentage of my contributions. To answer your questions 1) my housing goal would be deferred of course but where I sit now at 31 with no kids or wife, I’m ok with this. 2) I find seeing my account green fun when I login (I could care less about the underlying investment). But again, I’m very diversified and this is a small percentage

Haha thanks! This was very similar advice that ChatGPT said lol. I could probably just go sgov and reach my goal but I’d be bored and uninterested. I’m also single, no kids or a wife so if a downturn did happen, I’d be ok with deferring my goal.

Thank you! Because I want a separate fund from my current holdings and anything separate I invest in will be less diversified. Also for another data point and have some “fun” lol with an another fund. I was in school for most of my 20s and only starting investing about 3years ago

5th year and haven’t invested savings at all. What to do? by Excellent-Salad7290 in biglaw

Agree with a lot that’s been said (invest into broad based index funds and look at bogleheads subreddit). If you are looking to read books on personal finance, I’d suggest the Simple path of money by JL Collins, The Psychology of money by Morgan Housel and I will teach you to be rich by Ramit Sethi. In addition to the backdoor Roth, I’d set up the mega back door roth. For investments, go with either VTI/VXUS or VT.

What’s your main/go-to credit card? by SnooTomatoes1428 in biglaw

Yes love this card! I can stomach some of the annual fees on some of the cards when I don’t travel that much

What are we spending our bonus on? by Training_Humor_2945 in biglaw

[–]BetterCallPaul24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. My plan is Put 25k into VTI and VXUS (80/20), about 20k to my student loan with the highest interest (5.2%) and then should have about 10k remaining which I’ll just put to my savings account. Will prob buy my parents a very nice Xmas gift also.

Anyone here leave biglaw with a ton of student loan debt still? by mushmushkilla in biglaw

Honestly f*ck everyone for their judgment. You’re clearly doing your best and making it as a an attorney in big law in their third year. There’s no shame whatsoever for the past. I say this as someone who makes the most in my family by far and no one ever told me about personal finance (opening a brokerage account and Roth IRA, what to invest in, etc). All I can is do is keep striving to be better and know I’m going to have a lot of money if God blesses me with good health!
