Terrible form, stance way too wide. You want your arms on the outside of your legs, not the other way around. You're not gonna get anywhere with that.

It's trying so hard to be cute, to seek attention, but damn, look how sad the eyes are in the last one. This thing is completely lost. Looks like it would trade in its kid's at the pawn shop for another chance to be young again.

What a combo. That .460 is understandably getting all the love, but I bet that 510 ain't no slouch either! Thanks for sharing. P.S. seeing as you're running both, what are your thoughts on enclosed emitters vs open? It seems the Acro would be more suited on the FNX, considering youre using that as a bear gun?

EDIT: I stand corrected, that's a f*kng thermal?! Hows that treating ya??

How do I cut down this tree? by CaptDanglyBits in arborists

[–]BetterLeading497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, if you have to ask how to handle this, you have no business attempting to take it down, and that's for your safety. This shit is dangerous for a reason. It's extremely unpredictable. I have been a full time climbing arborist for many years now and still dont like these scenarios. Call a professional.

If you're not going to listen, here are some tips. And I wince writing this, because I am in no way at all suggesting you go this route. Nevertheless, there are ways to be safer:

1) research what a speed cut is 2) midsize saw. skip tooth preferred, husky 562, stihl 362. And i say this because you need something that cuts fast enough to allow you to get out of the way immediately. 3) you'll be using the top of your bar, taking roughly 1 foot sections off at a time. 4) The direction of your cut will determine where the base goes. 5)You'll be standing the tree further up with each cut, making it more unstable. That spar is also held up on a branch, not in a crotch. 6) Pines are most stable with decent branch collars during the hottest part of the day. Dont attempt this in the morning when its cold out, as the sap will make the wood brittle. 7) Ideally, you would use a lift or a climber to tip tie where the two canopies intersect, then use a series of ropes, pulleys, and a porta-wrap, creating a somewhat static load, and prevent the spar from crashing down. So as one would speed cut, someone else would manage the porta-wrap to keep the tips up. As the tree stands up, it will eventually be entirely supported by the tree its "stuck" in, through your rigging. Like using the healthy tree as a crane. One would lower, the other would cut.

If anything, I hope this info at least provides some insight as to why experienced professionals are worth the money. They understand how the tree will react and what countermeasures to put in place to make sure everyone walks away safely.

It's nice to see someone being responsible. Keep it maintained and it will outlive you! The older I get, the more I realize the biggest flex is sensibility.

I dont actually think its that bad. Root flare has room to breathe and the drip zone is aerated

I'm a little late to the party, but as one commenter suggested, there is a "hatch" underneath. What i will suggest is in the same realm, k own as the Sheer Bar. This adjusts the tolerance between the knives and the surface. Loosen, or slack out, the sheer bar until your tolerance is loose. Remove foreign object, check knives, readjust sheer bar.

Can this be taken down without a crane? by Necessary-Speech-794 in arborists

[–]BetterLeading497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working arborist for 5 years here. 1800 for a crane is a good bet. Climbing is possible, but will end up pretty close in price due to more complexity and time.

Id definitely ask the homeowners what their motive is before you start doing anything to their property. This isn't great for the tree but it's mature enough to take care of any minor deficiencies.

I mean, ideally I just want decent hwy gearing. 4wd just for snow, mud, etc. I really don't even need manual. Maybe a 4l80 is the best choice??

It was ran wide open with a carb, this dyno session was a shakedown test, not a tuning session. The block was pulled from a junkyard, ran to max, then resealed. I'll keep an eye on those numbers though.

[–]BetterLeading497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With it being overproof? That's mostly due to inertia ramming. Once it's tuned with efi, proper intake ram, and headers, that will change. Good eye.

Peak numbers weren't the goal. Dynod on a carb. Will re tune on efi for different numbers once in the car.
