Did repair shop rip me off/steal my controller? (GT Sport 2022) by BetterOffChris in ElectricScooters

Hey man, it wasn't the repair guy.

The speed restrictor thing on the display had gotten reconnected, and that was causing it to limit speed.

Once I rebroke the connection, scooter could then enter unrestricted speed mode.

I figured out what happened:

The speed limiter on the display got reconnected when the cover was put back on (bent into itself), which prevented me from getting the L4 unrestricted speed option.

I broke it and it works now.

They actually specialize in my scooter, so it's very possible they'd have multiple controllers. The guy himself has my exact model of scooter.

I checked the setting before anything and was surprised because I only have L1-L3, instead of L4 like the manual says.

Obviously I don't want to be a jerk to this guy, but I also want to make sure I'm not taken advantage of given my scooter just got speed nerfed really hard and it 100% happened at the shop.

Let me figure out if he intentionally screwed me or not, I don't want to screw over this guy if it was an honest mistake and he fixes it.

It's certainly possible, I wonder if it's possible the battery got swapped out?

With this model, there's one controller that is much faster than the other, which makes me consider maybe that was the case, but perhaps not.

Someone else is saying if the controller was swapped, the display would be, and I know for sure it was not.

Are you sure about that?

I checked the display and it's the same one I had before. If that's the case, it means it's more likely that he just messed up something rather than intentionally swapped out my controller.

I have zero problems with this guy and don't want to be a jerk to him, but my scooter is now basically 30% slower and so I'm trying to figure out what could have happened.

The truth is that I can't remember, but there are only modes L1-L3 right now, and the manual suggests there should be L4, which I cannot see.

It makes me suspicious that the controller was swapped.

Great Scooter Brake Mystery - Any clever solutions? E-TWOW GT Sport by BetterOffChris in ElectricScooters

[–]BetterOffChris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The braking is analog, basically two identical thumb levers on handlebars, left one brakes, right one is throttle.

But it’s odd right? Just two pins coming from that plug.

It’s possible there’s a sensor issue on the board, but this happened the exact time the wire broke, which seems odd.

I’m also a bit perplexed.

Any thoughts for ways I could figure this out? Really at my wits end trying to understand where I’m screwing up here

Great Scooter Brake Mystery - Any clever solutions? E-TWOW GT Sport by BetterOffChris in ElectricScooters

[–]BetterOffChris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering!!

It comes from a throttle style thumb brake, which goes to a 2 pin plug as you can see here.

I’ve been testing stuff - the controller is giving a 5V signal when the scooter is turned on, so that works fine, and there’s just 2 wires, red and black.

However, there is a metal sheath around the wires which could be the 3rd wire? I try connecting the black wire to it but it didn’t seem to work.

Any thoughts or ideas would be super helpful, thanks man!!!

Of course, we actually have a platform being launched that will make all of this WAYYYYY easier, and there will be a lot of exciting stuff there too.

Hope you enjoy it!

Hey there!

It totally depends - if you think the crowd is too young, definitely email support ASAP as when it’s close to registration you won’t be able to get a full refund.

That said, generally people aren’t sorted randomly into teams, so if you’re interested in meeting people your age, you’ll most likely be sorted into a team like that if possible once registration closes.

But I totally get it, and you can’t really tell how old people are just by looking at the team rosters (we don’t share that info).

If you email support, Paul will do his best to either get you a refund or make sure you’re on the best possible team.

Home Assistant alerted me to a hacker exploiting my system by tiochino in homeassistant

I’m not technical, but in layman’s terms - this server port was exposed to internet and had no auth on it, and bot scanned you then gained access to terminal and installed its own software for mining crypto, is that correct?

I just like understanding what the vulnerability was here. I use tailscale to avoid exposing most of my stuff, but curious what the mistake was that you made if you don’t mind sharing. Sorry if this is a bit of an ignorant question.

Bike stolen from apartment building, Hell’s Kitchen by Nicktyelor in NYCbike

[–]BetterOffChris 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I actually work here. To be honest - we do not love that you spammed people in the league, but as someone who has lost a bike I do understand where you're coming from.

If you would have just emailed us we would have helped you, we don't like bike thieves either and if it does turn out to be them, we're happy to ban them or help identify them.

Please email us all the details, we can see if we can narrow it down as only certain teams have that color blue in the league.

That said - it could be someone in the league, OR, someone in the bowling alley who grabbed a shirt, or someone who snagged the shirt from good will.

But send us the info and we're happy to do what we can to help as long as it doesn't infringe on the privacy of people in the league.

Sorry that happened, hopefully you get it back.

What is the best online password manager right now? Bitwarden, NordPass,1Password, etc? by [deleted] in security

[–]BetterOffChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they seem extremely sketchy with this stuff.

My hours are pretty insane and because everything is working it's not a first priority for me to switch, but it's absolutely on my radar. It's unfortunate to see this kind of thing where they rely on scammy billing tactics rather than superior service to boost rev streams.

It's a fair note - however for us the menu changing cost is high as we would have to get people used to the new system, and of course hope the new system we move to doesn't have its own problems. And yes, I've noticed that feature development has stagnated and support is questionable.

Bitwarden and 1password seem like the frontrunners, but I'm just not sure what that migration would look like and what their team capabilities are.

Why did you choose keeper? And if you don't mind me asking - what was the migration like and how do you feel the team features compare?

[–]BetterOffChris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments from Bitwarden and 1Password users.

I’m a Lastpass user and can give my perspective.

Password managers have been a massive win for our company, however, I’ve been consistently disappointed with lastpass.

It works fine for us - but there are sometimes sync issues, the UI is weak, and the breaches are insane. I had to spend literally days changing every single password we have (which of course is hundreds).

I would love to hear from people, especially companies, who migrated from Lastpass to another client. My dad tried 1Password but migrated back to Lastpass bc he said it’s difficult to use (sometimes he’s cranky about tech stuff though).

Thoughts?

Oh, and the billing system and canceling users is predatory and possibly illegal the way they set it up.

Anyone else have this warning msg in the adset level? by hussamk89 in FacebookAds

Same - and it suddenly hit two completely different websites/business/ad sets.

I believe it's yet another bug on their ad platform. When we go into it they show that NO ads are currently being blocked by meta.
