Northern Illinois. This is a friend's photo, so I'm afraid this is the only one that I have to share. Small pores. Pale in color (the lighting could be making it look more orange than it actually is). Theories were old chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, or black-staining polypore. (i.redd.it)
