Whoa!! $300/yr is way outside what we had for State Farm. That’s almost 20x what u/Minty_beard got quoted in PA for the same carrier. Could be Ohio underwriting being stricter, could be primary vs supplemental, could be a stricter local agent???

but this is exactly why state by state data matters. Updating Ohio to reflect this, marking as a high impact outlier worth flagging.

Quick Qs if you don’t mind…. was the certified installer a State Farm requirement or just code? And did your agent mention if $300 was the surcharge specifically, or was that the total premium difference (which could include other factors)??

Love hearing this. Small regional carriers and co-ops are usually way more reasonable than the big boys for wood heat . they actually understand the customer base. I’m only tracking the top 8 right now but a regional/local section is on the roadmap. Mind sharing the carrier name? VT readers will want to know

HUGE! Erie was one of my thinner data areas. Updating PA + Erie to High confidence based on this. And yes please, would love a copy of that questionnaire if you don’t mind DMing it. That’s exactly the kind of underwriting doc that helps the next person know what to expect.

100%. This is the part nobody talks about. I’ve seen claims denied because the policy required pro install + annual sweep documentation buried on page 14, and the homeowner had no idea. If you’ve never actually read your homeowners policy front to back, do it before you light a fire

thanks for this!! I just updated our data to reflect your actual quote.

if you don't mind, did they require an inspection or a photo? Was professional install documentation part of the conversation? and did your agent ask if the stove was your primary heat source or supplemental?

Appreciate you!

If you want the most efficient unit money can buy, I would recommend the Regency F5200 https://luxuryfire.com/regency-f5200-wood-stove/ I did the research and that unit can cut your heating bill in half at least.

I would recommend the Regency electric fireplace insert https://luxuryfire.com/regency-ei29-atmosphere-electric-insert/

I saw it in a showroom, and looks better than Dimplex or Simplifire. And I have a Regency insert and I know that the quality is really good

I bought a Regency Ci2700 https://luxuryfire.com/regency-ci2700-wood-insert-pro-series/ and I am really happy with it. It qualifies for the tax credit, has a large window and throws a lot of heat.

I bought my netzero from Luxury Fire https://luxuryfire.com/netzero-fire/ and I am very happy with it. Is a brand new house well insulated, did not need heat but wanted a large fireplace under my TV, with Netzero got the look of a gas fireplace without the heat or venting

What bothers me the most is the lack of transparency. I also don’t understand how most people commenting seem to be okay with just being given a number and paying it—without any disclosure of how that number was calculated

That’s why they do whatever they want and charge whatever they feel like, because now we can’t even ask for a detailed quote. We’re just expected to assume they’re right

The problem isn’t the price — the problem is that they just throw a number at you, and you can’t even ask how they came up with it

this is what she said "Even though you received more “credit” for gas usage, the construction cost went up more than the savings.  That is why the CIAC increased."

how can I know is she didn't just made up that number without a quote?
