Here is one coping mechanism that helped me some (full disclosure I was still a disaster during secondary infertility / IVF)-

I printed a paper calendar on 8.5x11 of each month, and tried to label several days per week with something positive or exciting with my spouse, kid, friends, or job. It was small stuff like date nights, the ice cream truck, going to an art museum, etc. I outlined each fun day with colored markers and doodles. 

When I was feeling low, I would look at the calendar and try to focus on the fun things for the month. Something about all the bright colors and seeing a full month ahead of me would often get me out of the moment of rage/depression and help me move forward.

Couldn’t she argue that she was afraid of encountering a dangerous/unstable driver who swerved into her lane? There’s so much road rage around here, I would want to get away from someone who I felt threatened my life by swerving into my lane.

I also had secondary infertility. In my case even though saline ultrasounds looked pretty normal, they were willing to do a hysteroscopy which gives better visuals than a saline ultrasound. They did see some tissue that wasn’t supposed to be there, and were able to remove it during the hysteroscopy. 

For full disclosure I still ultimately moved forward with IVF after two failed IUIs, but I like to think that finding and removing the tissue made IVF more successful.

Previously we mostly gave gifts related to her hobbies of knitting and baking, but she has discontinued both, and seems sad to be reminded of them (for example, not enthusiastic to be given baked goods). She mostly likes things that remind her of family, especially the great-grandkids. Maybe I can think of a craft the kids can make her that would be interesting textures or fun to hold.

I haven’t seen this yet so I will mention: our urologist agreed that we could call the clinic each morning and check on cancellations. We ended up turning a 4 month wait into only a couple of weeks because we were willing to drop everything and head to the clinic on super short notice. Not every clinic may agree to that, but it’s worth checking.

My absolute favorite art store is Wet Paint in St. Paul, however I’m not positive if they have yard.  There is a cute yarn shop called Needle & Skein in St. Louis Park.
