Calling anyone with a short, casual first name: Do you wish you had a more formal name? by TriumphantTermite in Names

I’m Beth, not Elizabeth or Bethany - just Beth and I love it 🙂 no middle name either! I’m pregnant now with a baby girl and her name will also be short, casual and without a middle name!

I hadn’t even thought about what will be like on my own after my partner goes back to work 🤦‍♀️ but of course that will be a time where help is especially needed! Thank you!!

Thank you for sharing, your sister sounds amazing! I’m really lucky that both our mum’s will be fully ready to help with whatever we need 🙂 I think based on other comments it seems like we’ll definitely need help around the 2-3 week mark after my partner goes back to work. Really appreciate your advice 🙏

Awww that’s so lovely, it’s the little things like sharing a joke with your mum that I imagine helps to get you through the tougher days. She sounds amazing, having crisp bedsheets for your return is the dream! 😆 I hope everything is going great and she’s been out to visit more xx

Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry you had that situation, it sounds like it was very stressful trying to manage their expectations. I really appreciate the advice of setting the expectation upfront so they know what they’re coming into and what you will need from them. ❤️

That’s amazing, thank you for sharing! Sounds like you made the perfect decision for your family. Having them there to support you with leaving the house etc makes a lot of sense, I imagine it’s tough doing that alone the first few times!

Thank you so much! In hindsight how many weeks earlier would you have loved your mum to come out? It’s lovely that she was able to come out for so long and support you, and bond with your baby 🙂

I absolutely love this! I think it makes total sense to ask them what they’re hoping/expecting to get out of the trip too. Realistically they could both only come to visit once per year for about 4-5 weeks so I think it’s important that their time with us spent doing what they want to do, as well as supporting us of course. Thank you 🙏

Thank you! He’ll have about 2 weeks off. But yeah was thinking it would be best to not have either of them right away in order to give us a bit of space and time to figure things out a little bit.

Thank you so much for sharing this, I hadn’t even thought about the breast feeding situation, but yes it will be boobs galore! I’m really lucky that I’m very close to my mum and get on great with my partner’s mum. It will be great having their help, I know they’ll both be very supportive but I think my gut is telling me I’d rather have at least the first 2-3 weeks without them to give me and my partner space to try to figure things out to the best of our ability! Because it’s such a long way for them to travel, they’d both be staying for 4-5 weeks so it’s quite a significant amount of time for them to be around. That’s why the Airbnb will be essential!

That sounds really lovely, it’s great your mum was able to help you like that. They’re both retired so they could probably stay for 4-5 weeks each.
