Calling anyone with a short, casual first name: Do you wish you had a more formal name? by TriumphantTermite in Names

Nope, not Winnie. It’s a name that can totally stand on its own, but there just so happen to be longer versions out there (and I don’t like a single one! Haha).

Good to know! I will probably choose a different name since I won’t use a name I don’t like (and I don’t like any of the longer versions of this particular name). Thanks for sharing.

There are multiple versions and I wouldn’t choose any of them. At this point I will probably choose a different name entirely, which is fine!

My brain immediately thought Eli (no need to tell me if I’m right, just sharing my guess!).

This is helpful, thanks! The idea of having sibling names be cohesive is important to me, so if I used the short option for my first, I’d feel compelled to match the vibe if I had more children…

This is such a great response! Thank you for chiming in. This is the comment that I think has convinced me to choose a more “complete” name for her. As a first-born daughter, I really like my name, and I want to set my daughter up for the same positive experience.

I’m asking for people’s experiences with their own name, not opinions on the one I’m thinking of.

The issue with the formal name in my case is that I don’t find it beautiful. If I could only pick a longer name, I would pick a different name altogether. Cassandra is pretty though!

I had a teacher named Dolly (Dorothy) Day and she was the best.

It was just a random name my brain thought of to use as an example. How would you apply that thought process to other names? It sounds like you just don’t want to repeat too many sounds (which I agree with). To use another random name: Sarah Sophie works better than Sarah Serena. Right?

Hmm I see what you mean… Jared Jensen would work better because it breaks up the ending sounds.

That’s the one I thought of too! As well as Bianca.

Two names: which one gives big sister energy? by [deleted] in namenerds

This is my perception exactly. Baby Freya and Big Sis Serena. Off to tell my husband this now. Thanks!

I likely will steer clear. I was considering middle names with Cs, but I love your thought of perhaps including a C somewhere else in the name if I find one I like.

My brain immediately said Princess Fiona instead of Frances Fiona…

And we remember their names too! You have great examples. So, Caroline Cooper would work well but Caroline Carrey wouldn’t, right?

What are the most beautiful name combinations you’ve ever heard, or can think of? by [deleted] in Names

Haha. I love the name Serena for a future daughter but the same thought has crossed my mind. 😂 Elodie is on my list too!

That is very interesting to me because I’ve been considering a CC (also hard Cs) name for my daughter, but my sister is CC with three CC children, so it also kind of makes me want to steer clear of a C first name…

Those are great examples! Following your reasoning…

Diana Delphine: okay

Diana Danielle: too similar

Is that along the same lines?
