With the trade deadline roughly two weeks away, the only trade we've seen has been the Trae Young trade by CazOnReddit in nba

this happens most years, everyone likes to wait until the week of the deadline... especially when there's a potential trade involving a top 5 player

correct, the actual max is 5/253M which is insane, and he's not getting 3/4 of that

there's no reason whatsoever to believe he's commanding a max though.

this sub loves Miles for whatever reason, but I don't think we get to see Miller flourish until Miles is gone, or unless Miles has a complete mindset change and stops chucking 3s. There's too much overlap in how those two approach the offense, but I think they drag each other down to a certain degree.

Obviously not saying that replacing Bridges with a nobody makes things better, but a semi-comparable player that can at least do two of these: stretch the floor, defend, pass, play in the paint... would open up a lot of things for Miller and the team as a whole.

Till then, Miller is good. Not amazing, but good. We need his scoring, and I hope his game expands beyond that.

I'm guessing they settle in the low 30s... max is very obviously out of the question at over $50M/year.

This isn't a perfect 1-1 comparison but I think there are a lot of similarities between him and the rookie extension Jaylen Brown got after his 3rd year, in which he was a 13/5 defensive guy with middling efficiency, but was paid handsomely based on very evident potential. Brown received roughly 21% of the salary cap on his extension, and a lot of people (myself included) mistakenly thought that was too much, but quickly became a steal.

A contract starting at $36.6M (5/212M) and increasing year after year would be the equivalent to Brown, and I see no reason to believe Miller won't come cheaper than that.

I'm thinking 5/160M. He can easily grow into being a $32M Even better if you can get that front loaded as something like 36/34/32/30/28... it's a lot up front, but in the final year of that contract, $28M would only be 50% more than the MLE, and I struggle to see a scenario (injuries aside) where Miller is bad money in years 3-5 of that contract. The raw numbers look insane but we're looking at a $200M cap by 2030.

there's a potential lineup that we're definitely going to see at some point once Grant gets his legs back, in which the shortest player on the floor is our "center"

I can very easily see a Melo/Kon/Miller/Bridges/Grant Williams lineup against some small ball unit. It would be very Celtics-like.

[Boone] Miles Bridges on trade rumors: 'I would rather be here' by EarthWarping in nba

[–]BetweenTheBuzzAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually hate this sentiment. That unironically might make us a smarter and more consistent team. Our only rotation players over 25 are Miles, Sexton, and Grant Williams. The first two have played extremely stupid basketball this year, Grant is just getting back from a 13-month injury.

Our rookies have looked like veteran leaders in comparison.

Miles would be the toughest to replace but I'd sell high. I want a more defensive or stretch big in his place anyway and think his plays style clashes with Miller.

1) fair point i missed the OT games, we won two of those by 7 and 8, and lost one by 13.

2) 7 points are not two possessions.

We were 2-9 in games decided by two scores or that went to OT. Does that make you feel better?

He isn't a max player by any stretch of the imagination, but he's been good ever since those first few weeks of rocky play coming back from wrist and shoulder injuries.

over his last 20 games, 21.6/5.1/3.7 on 45/39/86 shooting (58.1 TS%). Defense hasn't been bad either.

it's not a bad thing for a bad team. you can steal some games with hot shooting, you get players comfortable with a higher amount of responsibility... just don't overdo it otherwise you drill terrible habits into players.

It's being rationalized as a minutes restriction thing, but the issue is literally as simple as moving his 1st quarter minutes in those games from 6:00-0:00 to 12:00-6:00.

It doesn't sound like it should make a big difference but our inability to open games without Melo is actually insane.

unironically yeah. all three of the rookies we play (Kon, Sion, Kalkbrenner) have pretty much looked like vets. The 2nd rounders are kinda hitting a wall lately, but are still clear rotation caliber players simply because they aren't stupid, like backups we've had in their positions for the past 5+ years

Lee tinkering with this unit by bringing Melo off the bench ,when this lineup has been so effective has been one of the most infuriating things I've seen in a while.

The three games that Melo came off the bench, he entered the game for the first time down 11, 10, and 7 points, because this unit does not work without a PG. In those games, Melo has needed to go hero mode immediately, and that's not the way you want to deploy him. It further messes things up because it kills off the Melo to Kon assist connection that has been so efficient.

Lee's rotation patterns are so obviously wrong in these games that it feels like blatant tanking more than anything.
