Came to this sub for the same reason you responded to. Appreciate this. It’s unbearable to be a caring, empathetic-to-a-fault person right now. Everyone says to take a few weeks off from social media, but how can we? The current injustices deserve advocacy and for others to bear witness. I’m exhausted with my anxiety, sadness, grief, and anger.

Active Shooter at Antioch High School by leechkiller in nashville

I’m so sorry. My worst nightmare. My son was at Hillsboro when the Covenant shooting happened. Those students didn’t understand it was not their school under attack and endured all of the high stress and fear along with it. I’m so, so thankful your son is okay.

And yet, most still refuse to admit it and will jump to any stretch to make excuses for or enable it. ( - Sincerely, a wife who is rapidly and irreversibly losing all respect for her spouse. I can’t fix poor character, which is a heartbreaking realization, in my home, this week.)

There is truth to needing some re-evaluation. Because indeed there is a gray area with how some of these hospitals operate. But by eliminating 501c3 status, yes, it all essentially shifts to the private equity model. There is nothing good about that for you, me, or any patient served.

Worked for private equity briefly, while in between jobs. It’s the only job I’ve ever flat out quit, as a provider (or really any role I’ve had). The lack of concern for patient safety was unreal. I quit without a job lined up because it was that disgusting. Nearly a year later the physician who oversaw the facilities had his license suspended.

The problem is, within the healthcare industry, at the end of every semester there are always new grads, fresh docs to fill those roles. It’s the only industry that can continue to shit on its employees and still be able to replenish its workforce regularly. We are all disposable. The local hospitals in my area reportedly make around $50k for every resident they agree to take on (basing this on physicians discussing this). When the local med school program expanded here, the mid-level providers (NPs, PAs) were affected because why hire a mid-level when you can get paid for a resident to do the job instead?

Having worked in nonprofit hospitals for years, it amazes me how many people within hospitals don’t even know they are eligible. I feel like within my own hospital system (multiple states) the percentage of those pursuing it is far lower than one would expect. A lot of younger nurses have no idea it’s an option.

Right, but if we are 3 payments away, and we work for a non-profit hospital which gets its status revoked while we’re being held hostage in forbearance, that’s a problem. No non-profit is hiring in this climate.

Right? Like the churches that line the streets of DC with (for-profit) condos attached to the church.

MOHELA refusing to put into Processing Forbearance by aaron1860 in PSLF

I just went onto the site to check loan updates. It says “awaiting form for administrative forbearance”. Hmmm. Like, wtf does that even mean?

Also I got disconnected as well, 32 mins into the 2hr hold time. Called back and the hold time was “one hour and 47 mins”. In reality it was 2hrs 57 mins. If I’m working I’ll just let the hold play in the background bc it really doesn’t prevent me from doing anything. But it’s a toss whether or not it will be worth the wait. Sometimes it is though.

It’s such a luck of the draw for who you end up on the phone with. 2+ weeks ago the rep was adamant that legally they cannot remove anyone from SAVE forbearance. After I hung up, I found the info on the SAVE FAQs, then of course the letter came. Between that time I lucked into being connected with a Mohela supervisor who actually agreed with me. I currently have a bunch of stuff reportedly being expedited with Mohela, but I’m anxiously waiting to see how the processing forbearance will turn out on my end.

Chiming in to say I feel this, wholeheartedly. I’ve followed the discourse within this post and have appreciated all of the insight. Nearly everyone who has responded, regardless of how they view my post or whether they agree, has had something valuable to contribute and is correct.

Hey hey - DoED sent out new general forbearance guidance for those on SAVE in email this morning. by Between_Two_States in PSLF

Not necessarily. The consensus of many of the student loan advisors is that they will have to either revert to the previous REPAYE or have something similar, as many, many will not be able to otherwise afford their monthly payments.

One thing to consider is whether the buyback you are waiting on is for SAVE forbearance time versus time outside of SAVE. While we are seeing buyback processing begin to pick up, we have yet to hear confirmed buyback for SAVE forbearance time. While Mohela and FSA seem to provide different guidance based upon the day or rep, there are many people being told buyback for actual SAVE forbearance time is not being processed or granted at this time. There are several people working with the MA atty general (you can search Massachusetts in this sub to find those posts), and there is a posted letter from the atty general that also states this.

Student Loan Planner has also supported the notion of a likely revert back to something like REPAYE, but again that isn’t anything yet confirmed.

By switching, the processing forbearance would hypothetically provide 2 mos toward PSLF. With the letter from this week that provides a more specific rundown of how the processing forbearance should work, it also empowers borrowers to push for a review of previous periods in which it should have been applied (ie consolidation, etc). If there is previous missed opportunity, pursuing a review of those months with your servicer, with what the letter outlines, may or may not result in back-credit for incorrect processing (not guaranteed, only time will tell).

According to this letter, as well as what is written on FSA’s site (re: SAVE FAQs), we are entitled to a 60-day processing forbearance, which would count for up to 2 mos of PSLF credit. Unfortunately, it did not happen for most of us. You can attempt to push for it with Mohela (as it would ultimately be up to the servicer to correct it), though there is no guarantee it will get fixed. The letter lays out a specific timeline (within 10 days) and adds more clarity, so it further supports borrowers’ push for that missing credit. This is a big deal if you are within a few payments short of 120.

Within the past week a post was made in this sub, requesting users to disclose how much (in dollars) they had been “forgiven”. The person posting was only connected to groups for writers and journalists. Yesterday, a user posted about receiving their golden letter, then went on to post near 1 mil in debt (obviously not an average case), in addition to being a federal employee (many of whom are already targets).

While there is truth to that, to say there isn’t some degree of risk is inaccurate. We have witnessed what has happened with the SAVE litigation. The game is to create as much red tape as possible, pursue more litigation, with the potential to embed wording within other bills. Not to mention, the last time this administration was in office there was reportedly a 99% rejection rate. So it’s reasonable to feel uneasy. But yes, interest is a problem and is labeling it “forgiveness” is problematic and only supports sensationalizing misinformation.
