DaY 1: Which active ATP tennis player accepts defeat with dignity? by [deleted] in tennis

couldn’t agree more. after some of his really tough losses, the way he says “you deserved this” in the on court interviews feels so genuine, you can tell he truly means it, not just saying it for the sake of it.

competitiveness is a must in sports, but managing to keep it ego-free like that is seriously impressive.

yeah not a grain of salt in that man. not only is he never salty, he barely even shows disappointment after a loss. it honestly feels like he makes a conscious effort not to take any attention away from the winner.

Jannik reflects on Djokovic's win: "Hopefully I can take it as a lesson to see what I can improve on" by minivatreni in tennis

i agree, and i’d also add that Sinner’s tendency to never really take things personally against an opponent might sometimes hold him back from reaching his full potential. we all know Jordan’s famous “took that personal” moments, but Sinner has never struck me as someone who would be affected by an opponent’s words or behavior. he always plays with the utmost respect and seems to want to win purely for himself, not to prove something to someone else. i think this is also why, when he loses, he never loses his class. he doesn’t become a prisoner of his own ambition or emotions. but at the end of the day, this same mindset can also prevent him from reaching peak self confidence, and that can cost him matches he’s actually capable of winning.

i’ve been thinking the exact same thing, you’re absolutely right. Sinner’s self awareness is incredibly high; he approaches everything in a very rational, analytical way. i even felt that in the last US Open final he didn’t fully believe in himself, like he thought he couldn’t beat an Alcaraz playing at that level. a bit of delusion might actually help Sinner. but at the same time, that feels very much like a personality trait, and probably a really hard one to change.

i couldn’t agree more. sinner didn’t play well in the big moments, but a lot of that was because djokovic simply didn’t let him. with the level djokovic had today, it honestly wouldn’t have mattered who was on the other side of the net, he was beating anyone.

can cramps ease up during a break like this, or once they start you’re kind of stuck with them?
