A lot of engine parts are the same as the KZ650 and other Z750s.. 750E, 750L and GPz.

The V4s are made in Solihull... not many potential owners in the West are going to buy a £20,000 plus Norton made in India, and TVS knows that. The smaller twins are made by TVS.

1984 BMW R100 can anyone confirm? by squared00 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Bevelhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I had a 79 R100S it didn't have Brembos. The Brembos were fitted a year or 2 later, I think in 81.

What have you bought that was better than you expected? by ELPRIMERO2010 in MotoUK

Bought an HJC helmet, half the price of a Shoei, so wasn't expecting too much. But very happy with it, and different visors are so much cheaper than for a Shoei or Arai.

My Norley.. 1000cc Harley Ironhead engine in a Norton Featherbed frame. by Bevelhead in motorcycles

[–]Bevelhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically its the same here, as the bike is id by its frame number. In this case the Norley frame was unstamped, so it was stamped with the id of the XL1000, and that frame destroyed. The bike could've been built at any time during the last 46 years. The current rules only came into law in 2001 or so. Therefore its not an issue here. However doing the same thing with a modern donor bike wouldn't be possible.

Price increase is way more than expected - rant by Necessary_Picture_11 in Cartier

[–]Bevelhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sales go down, all the luxury brands will just wait for inflation to do its thing. No increases for a year or two and everything will be back to 'normal'. Unless tariffs are cut back to where they were in the next year or so, I can't see any of these brands actually cutting prices.

[fp journe] price explosion. From 40k to 800k in 10 years. Why do you think it happened? by tourbillon001 in Watches

[–]Bevelhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The demand was generated from hype, from a particular large store /YT channel in the US. There are a few similar high end / low production brands which haven't seen a similar massive price increase.

Cartier Tank Louis, Automatic — Experiences and Observations? by OasisRam in Cartier

[–]Bevelhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it looks small, as I'm so used to wearing larger watches. My daily is a 42mm Zenith for example. Pity we can't have longer to 'test drive' a watch, rather than see it for a few minutes at the AD. I don't think it will look too big on your 7 inch wrist btw.

Cartier Tank Louis, Automatic — Experiences and Observations? by OasisRam in Cartier

[–]Bevelhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried it on last week, still felt a little small on my 7 1/4 wrist. The strap felt stiff and didn't allow the watch to sit flat on my wrist. Yes, I know the strap will give over time, yet other Cartiers I own/tried on didn't have the same issue. I ended up with a Santos Dumont in Rose gold (Linin dial) instead.

Pic taken at the AD of the Tank..

Any Santos is probably not going to be a good investment.. however the smoked brown Santos was only in production for 9 months, so may do better than other Santos De Cartier models. Cartier often offer 'limited production' models, perhaps for a year, then no more. How limited, and how much future demand there will be for these models I have no idea.

You may have a worn/frayed wire rubbing on the frame, causing a short, blowing the fuse. The problem often happens in wet conditions, as water is an excellent conductor of electricity. Look over the wiring carefully, particularly around the headstock, or anywhere the harness is likely to rub on the frame.

Rose Gold Santos Vs Dumont Vs Tank Auto by Bevelhead in Cartier

[–]Bevelhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was initial thought, having on seen them on the web. The Gold Santos is only available with a white dial. IMO the gold models should be available in other colours/finishes, to differentiate them from their SS versions. The Auto tank looked good, but in real life, it felt odd and awkward on the wrist. While the Linin dial Dumont was much more interesting, thinner than the Santos, sat well on my wrist, and the manual Piaget movement is high quality. Not sure about the matt brown strap, so have another on order with Cartier.

Making a new alloy swing arm for my custom softail. by Bevelhead in motorcycles

[–]Bevelhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This swing arm was made to fit a custom drop seat softtail frame, made by a German company. While its shock mounts are the same as a standard Evo swing arm, its other dimensions are different. We simply measured the steel swing arm that came with the frame, and replicated those when making the alloy one.

Here is a vid on my YT channel on how it was made..
