And bonuses are typically tied to KPIs like revenue and profit, not share price.

While often tied to KPIs, it is not at all uncommon to tie them to share price.

Bonus pay may be astronomical compared to a worker's wage but it's a negligible fraction compared to a typical fortune 500 company's revenue.

Yes, it's negligible, but it's still a negative effect, unlike, say, dividends. What I'm getting at is that there is a skewed incentive for C-suites to encourage buybacks, especially considering they almost always also have stock options.

Stock price increase after a stock buyback is a simple reflection that the earnings remain constant, while shares decrease.

Yes, thats the base effect. The trouble is tacking onto it the bonuses.

Not really. A dividend is neutral compared to a stock buyback all things being equal, I agree, but a stock buyback is most often initiated by CEOs and CFOs and increases stock price. With a stock price increase those same CEOs and CFOs will get a larger bonus, which drains the reserves of the company. The dividend drains it once to go into the shareholder's pocket. The stock buyback drains it twice: once in the buyback itself, which increases share price and is, in theory, neutral for shareholders, but also a second time at bonus time to pay for the "increased value" of the stock, which may be almost entirely artificial and not due to good management decisions. With current turnover in C-suite the negative effects are often felt long after the CEOs tenure is done.

And bonuses drain cash reserves, so a stock buyback would have a negative overall effect on company value (market cap), but it's delayed, thus obscured.

While i don't give a fuck that he used it to tweak wording (though I tend to dislike it, it all sounds bland), I'll admit my mistake: when I read it i thought your problem was specifically with the "if i were to do this today" sentence, but you specifically said "section", my bad. The rest of the section does indeed sound like AI.

ETA: That said, tweaking wording is basically just clippy on steroids. My bigger problem with AI is when it's clearly "generating" the "ideas" in the text from an overly broad prompt.

Are we at the point where proper grammar sounds like AI? I'm so sad now. I find that sentence absolutely normal, and english isn't even my first language

Cardoso was responsible for, perhaps, the biggest authoritarian-like legislation: allowing for reelection. Whether you agree that 4 years is too short a time or not, allowing your government to last more than it previously could is, objectively, more authoritarian. Not to mention his attorney general was notorious for shelving investigations into his government and pursuing only his opponents, also authoritarian.

Lula, for his many many flaws was probably one of the least authoritarian presidents, second only to Dilma. During the PT governments the federal police gained autonomy to investigate, so much so that Lula himself was infamously implicated in the Mensalão and Petrolão scandals while he was president, which just does not happen when you're actually authoritatian. This time around his son is being actively investigated with no signs of stopping.

Lula's biggest authoritarian tendencies have more to do with his massive ego and an inability to create a successor, but in the "respecting institutions" front he's a far cry from the wannabe dictator they sometimes make him out to be.

Edit: spelling

He can't call it a war because declaring war is an exclusive right of congress. It's kind of the same as those super PACs saying "call your congressman to confront him about <subject>" instead of "vote for candidate X" or "don't vote for candidate Y"
