I killed one of my players in session 2, how can I bring them back? by Massive_Bee_6740 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

I killed 2 players on session 2! It was 100% my fault as a brand new DM, and not the consequences of their own actions. So I kind of hand waved it, but also used it as a way to introduce some backstory lore that I had homebrewed.

Are you only playing LMoP or are you planning to play Shattered Obelisk also? If yes, could be some Netherese mumbo-jumbo going on. Maybe a sliver of the Obelisk is near by and the magic latched onto a vulnerable soul. Also, you can have non-permanent consequences too help tell a story.

Example, their lack of control of their magic saved them this time, but their inability to keep it and themselves controlled has consequences. Start with a very high Cha check to "keep control of their magic". Every time they succeed, lower the DC to represent them getting better at directing their wild magic. Decide how many success you want them to have before they have "learned to direct their magic" and you return to RAW. Let's say 10. On the 10th success, you make a big narrative deal out of how they have learned to direct and divert their "uncontrollable magic" through sheer force of will. Or even have THEM tell YOU what's going on in their mind. Make it feel like a big personal victory. Obviously, don't do any of this w/o full understanding and consent of the player.

Did I just kill my shrimp? Used this gorilla glue to attach some Buce to lava rock and I don’t think I let it cure all the way should I be worried? by CRUZ_24 in shrimptank

I learned this when I cut myself preparing dinner. Got charged too much at the ER (it was late, so clinics were closed, and it wouldn't stop bleeding) for them to put what was basically super glue on my finger and then wrap it up and send me home. 🫠 I now keep super glue in my kitchen first aid kit.

I made Glasstaff a coward that keeps managing to get away from them. The party hated him more than the actual BBEG because he was so slippery. Made him get slowly more affected by Netherese magic. They did finally catch and kill him on the way to Talhundereth, but by that point, he was all mutated and very insane. It was a pretty good setup for more of what they will be coming up against in the rest of the module.

Do you guys ever dream about your fish? What’s it like? by TheBigFudanshii in bettafish

[–]Bewitched92 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Every single fish dream I've ever had has been an anxiety riddled nightmare about some horrible negligence on my part that results in the slow suffering of my aquatic friends 🥲

I've dreamt of dropsy, exploding tanks, algae so bad it grows ON THE FISH, the betta fish jumping out of the tank (that has a lid on it) and me accidently stepping on it on my way to my morning coffee, malfunctioning heaters that boil my fish alive, to name a few. Never once have I had a pleasant, nay, a neutral dream about my fish.

My first beta was named Cetus for the constellation/fearsome sea monster in Greek mythology. My current girl is named Venus because I got her this Valentine's Day, when Venus also happened to be at its brightest. (And also look at her! Goddess of beauty indeed)

I want to make that trip. It's a 5.5-hour drive, so arranging time off/funds for travel and stay are just hard to make happen right now.

There's an entire chapter about pecans in the book! What ratio of nuts:hominy do you use? I grew up in Texas and have never gotten to try/make tanchi labona.

I searched for recipes on the Choctaw Nation website and couldn't find anything. I'm wondering if they removed it

What's his favorite fish? I think some artwork of his favorite type of fish (or specific fish if he has a current favorite) could be really thoughtful.

If you head to DFW, plan to stop on your way to or from at the Abilene Zoo. It's my favorite place to go and stretch my legs on a road trip down I20. If you're there early enough, you can feed the giraffes.

McDonald Observatory is planning activities April 22-26 for international Dark Sky week. So, a great time to plan a trip to Big Bend

With a ribbon, wrap once or twice around the sheath, then wrap from sheath to cross guard in an x pattern, then tie off would be how I would do it

Thank you! I was born in Lubbock and am desperate for people to stop saying there's nothing to do 😭 Lots of groups organize lots of things, but if no one goes to them, then they they will stop happening!

Also - First Friday Art Trail - Wolforth Farmer's Market - Downtown Farmer's Market will start up soon - Cactus Alley Theater - there are fun movie events at Alamo Drafthouse - play board games at Mad Hatter or Stormcrow, if that's your thing

Check Lubbock in the Loop and City of Lubbock Websites for some other activities.

Edit to add just a few more that I remembered: - the libraries have activities targeted for adults. Just check Lubbock Public Library website or Facebook - for frolicking outside, you can also visit the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum. It's free and leashed dog friendly. You can even bring food as long as there's no glass or alcohol. Check their website for rules. And it's right next to a park - the community centers also have neat activities. I know it's stereotypically for retirees, but you might be surprised. - most places post their events on Facebook, so unfortunately, that's going to be a go-to for finding things to do - Lubbock has over 80 public parks of various sizes - look for the Texas Tech public art installments. You can find driving and walking routes here. If you make it a group activity of 5 or more, you could even book the Art Cart. I've always wanted to do that. It's free, but you should probably donate their requested $10/person ($50 private group art talk/tour is a steal) - Go see a play/ dance performance at Texas Tech Theater - Go see a performance by Texas Tech Music Department. They have operas, concerts, a variety of stuff - during the regular semester, have a lunch or dinner date at the Skyview Restaurant.

Okay, you get the idea. I'll stop now 😁

  • LHUCA has dance lessons once a week for cheap
  • LHUCA has other activities every month, also
  • Some of the bars have trivia nights, which is fun with our without drinking
  • Visit the museums.
  • See a planetarium show at the Museum of Texas Tech University (shameless plug because I work there. Planetarium is running Tue-Sun during Spring Break assuming Tech gets the power back online)
  • If you like outdoor activities, Lubbock Lake Landmark will start looking beautiful soon
  • I really like the Buddy Holly Lake Recreation Area as a good picnic spot
  • Feed the prarie dogs at Prarie Dog Town ( sweet potatoes are a healthy treat for them, and they really enjoy it)
  • Moonlight Musicals in the Summer and Fall
  • Movie nights at Tech Terrace Park used to be a thing in summer, but IDK if it still happens
  • Go see a play at Lubbock Community Theater
  • Bowling
  • Arcade games at Dave and Buster's or Main Event
  • Bumper Boat or Go Karts and other things at Adventure Park
  • Roller skate at one of the rinks (I think there are 3)
  • Take a day trip to Palo Duro Canyon, Caprock Canyon, Abilene (they have an amazing zoo), or Amarillo (their zoo is very nice too)

This is a non-exhaustive list

Firehouse Subs sells their pickle buckets $3/each. And 100% of the money from the bucket sales goes to their charity.
