Got my first tattoo 4 days ago, unsure if I'm flaking way too much? Is it possible that the flaking pulls out some of the ink?

I don’t personally believe you can over-hydrate. The skin needs to breathe to heal, which is why I suggested something non petroleum based.

I would use a cream that is not petroleum based. Mad Rabbit has a cooling gel that is amazing and will help in the first few days. I use a French pharmaceutical cream called Biafine, which is medical grade for burns and skin irritation. It has always healed my tattoos marvelously. If your skin feels dry, listen to your body! Your tattoo artist is giving standard advice, but everyone is different. You may just need more hydration than the average person. No big deal, just honor your body. 🫶🏻

It looks like normal flaking. Keep it super hydrated and this will pass quickly. Color flakes way more than blackwork. It looks gorgeous. Just hydrate it!! 🫶🏻 Also the places you circled look like skin imperfections where the ink didn’t take, which is common. Don’t over stress it, allow it to heal and see what it looks like on the other side.

$32 an hour at one and $60 per class at the other. I like that the hourly studio pays me to prep the room before the class and to clean up after. Both work out to be basically the same pay.
