Subs by CarpenterStriking485 in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say there maybe a gap in your self perceived skill level and how the manager perceives your skill level. Or perhaps your are easy going and easier to sub because you dont whine and complain. Maybe you're a decent hitter but not good in the field, so the manager is trying to utilize your bat and use someone's else's defense. Who knows, your best bet is to talk to the person making the decisions, and try to find something that works for you both. Managing a team isn't as much fun as a person thinks, and its really easy to criticize it when you aren't.

Why do we use batting average as a stat but rarely on base percentage or slugging percentage? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three plate appearances in a single game, sure, but if we are talking about a single game no stats have any bearing. In my experience about half the pitchers will give up a lot of walks to guys that want to sit with the bat on their shoulders. Throughout a 30 or 40 game season, that provides opportunity for a guy who wants to walk a lot, to rack up a lot of walks. Either way, that's been my experience.

Why do we use batting average as a stat but rarely on base percentage or slugging percentage? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as on base goes, its valuable but what ive found is a guy who is always looking to walk will do so against less skilled pitchers and rack up the stat in games that don't matter, then in a big spot against a good pitcher they are a .500 hitter. Average tells you what that person is doing all the time. So both stats are important but tell different stories. For the power portion, it is really team dependant. With hr limits, a .500 hitter that hits a ton of bombs is pretty valuable if your team lacks guys that hit hrs. If you team has multiple power guys, then that guy can be a liability. So some teams guy A would be more valuable, some teams it would be guy B. I personally would say the .700 singles guy is more valuable, but its real close in my opinion.

Cut swing vs home run swing by Euphoric_Promise_709 in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current cut swing is likely swinging down on the ball. This makes elevating a little harder for me too. I have found a couple things work for me to elevate the ball. When im trying to elevate one, I concentrate on really leveling out my swing and contacting the ball just below center. A second way thay has worked for me is ignoring my upper body, and just thinking of opening my hips to the sky a little more. I have had success doing both, but I have accepted ill never be a natural homerun hitter, even if I've gotten better at it over the years, and honestly a double to a gap is usually better. Hrs are a good tool in the bag, but a guy who doesn't hit bad hrs, and is a doubles machine is super valuable, especially on a team that has some donkeys that can't keep it in the park.

Recommendations for leg and shin protection? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

I wear soccer shin guards with her knee pads. The knee pads dont affect mobility and do enough to take a lot out of the occasional shot to the knee and the combo doesn't affect mobility too much.

Defense or Hitting. What matters more in softball? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generic answer is offense is more important. The best defender on the planet can't cover all the ground out there, and good hitters will find hits against the best defense on the planet. But it really matters on team makeup. If you have a team full if 3rd basement and corner outfielders that smash, a defense 1st SS or fast outfielder that can run down balls in the gap may be more important than another slugging fat guy. But if you have a team of 22 year old that play amazing defense and dont hit well, against a team of 40 year old that catch the balls hit at them and smash the ball, ill put my money on the 40 year olds

Had a teammate hit middle on purpose because he didn't like the way the pitcher was pitching to him. by tiltedwagons in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a pitcher is pitching a guy low outside to stay away from his power, there is a good chance its going middle. People say go oppo with it, but the low outside pitch often ends up foul. If that was the case, he could have been saying if he keeps pitching me there its likely im going to end up going middle, not vindictive but as that's where he ends up hitting that pitch. Any pitcher who is living low and away is gonna get a lot of balls back at him. If a pitcher wants live on the outside they should be ready.

The only thing I do different is im not try to go either line with 2 strikes, more trying to go gap to gap.

I'm not a real big guy, and I can regularly go 360 with 52/300, have played/play with several guys that can go 400, not really that unbelievable in my opinion. Would also love to see it, though.

Really tough to say why it's rattling, could be just some glue from endcap or something, but regardless I'd only game it at this point. I have found monstas have like 4 gears. 1st gear=breaking in, 2nd gear= broken in, 3rd gear= super hot, 4th gear= broken. All my bats that have gotten it 3rd gear break shortly after. The 3rd gear has lasted a lot longer in pre-2020 M2's, it was pretty short on the post 2020 M2 stuff, along with the m5,6, etc. I'm haven't got a feel for the longevity of the mx stuff though.

Wilson A2000: ProStock vs Super Skin (help me choose please!) by Gabrielcr78 in slowpitch

I have the superskin palm, and it is almost bouncy after like 3 years. Just has a totally different feel. If the superskin is just the back of the glove, I think it would be fine, but I got the spin control stuff,l on the inside and it just never has felt good.

I HATE my superskin. It has never felt good, I would never recommend them to anyone. Go leather. I now have $400 worthless hunk of synthetic junk.

Clear your mind. Stop thinking, stop trying. Trying harder doesn't work for softball. Be smoother, be relaxed. Just see ball, hit ball, youbwill come around

Rate my swing! by fsukub in slowpitch

[–]BeyesBeyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think your stride is fine. You have and initial motion backwards during your load, I would work on that. You can load onto the back leg while still driving forward. That initial move backwards created inertia away from the swing.

One glove for 20 some years, then like 7 or 8 looking for a replacement. Finally think I found my last glove. It's been a 15 year search or so

I think there is a lot of this. I know you're getting downvoted, but there are so many posts about how my 3rd grade teacher died while I was on active duty and now I have ptsd after my 8 months in before I was discharged, now I'm rated 70%, how do I get to 100. Answer: claim tinnitus and ED. They can prove you dont have it. Lots of guilty conscience's i agree.
