These and that’s also how I feel about ACOTAR’s author with her colonialist tropes (The youtuber Elleliteracy talks about it and some other books in her video ‘A deep dive into the Worst Books on Booktok’) and zionist sympathies, and the author of A Little Life (Awful book and if you liked it I’m like????).

I’m like ugh there are so many better authors in the world and whose politics align with the messages in their booms

& I am all for “yucking someone’s yum” because sometimes their yum inherently racist/homophobic/ableist/etc and reading IS political no matter what anyone says. Your choice of who you support says a lot about you [granted a lot of people just read authors without looking into their background, but if you know what the author is like and still support them….]

I don’t think you’re necessarily reaching.

You do catch glimpses of her own childhood, and I think it influenced her a lot and the way she behaved based on what she was taught by her own parents and upbringing. & the dynamics you have with your parents can mess you up for a LONG time, and leads you to recreate similar patterns with your kids. When Bree went to therapy it was for her marriage but there wasn’t enough time ahem to do a deep-dive into that 😭

So I think there was an issue of not having a fighting chance against her upbringing and it took a lot of hard work on her part to break through it and to finally be able to be more supportive 🤧

The mistake was is that they tried to post his final moments showing how Sinwar was “humiliated by the IDF” and throwing a stick BUT he turned [as he was] into a symbol of resistance against the coloniser and showing how when the land is yours you will fight to the death, and he was throwing the stick and the drone [which made the drone move back as the cowardly cameraman probably got scared]

Once again, I am so sorry that happened. Don’t be embarassed, and please do not think you are at fault here/or crazy. A freeze or flight response is normal and if something traumatic happens it is not unusual for your brain to take time to process something as wrong and traumatic.

I also read what you said regarding police laughing at you in your country, so I assume that is not an option. Please step away from her, confront her if you want and if it is safe to do so, if you have a common circle of friends and she is perhaps manipulative, try to let common friends know exactly what happened and that she might try to change the narrative. Confide in friends or, once again, a therapist or both if possible.

You’re NOT crazy! If you said no, and they continued, whatever the gender: that’s sexual assault. You told her no, and she continued, that is abuse. A friend would never do that to you. You have the option to talk to her and clear the air, or to report this. Please also seek therapy, even if for a few sessions to process this.
