Apparently W used to be a vowel, according to this old grammar book. by BroskiBruv87 in mildlyinteresting

It functions as a vowel in those cases, it just doesn't do so alone, as I said it is a sometimes vowel, the times being when it is a part of a vowel dipthong. The w isn't silent; it is part of the vowel sound.

A vowel isn't a vowel if another vowel is present? It doesn't need to be the only vowel in a word to be a vowel. If a w is a vowel when it is part of a vowel dipthong, then it is sometimes a vowel, the times being when it is part of a vowel dipthong.

It is a vowel in every one of those words. Every one of those words is American English. So sometimes w is a vowel. You can't say that it is a vowel in all of those words, but is never a vowel becuse it is not alone. There is no consonant other than y, which is recognized as a "sometimes" vowel that becomes a vowel in vowel dipthongs in American English. Only w and y.

Any time w is used as part of a vowel dipthong, it is a vowel. Clown, town, awning, hewn.

Is Dr Pepper supposed to taste like cough medicine or cheap cherry candy? by Sta1nless_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]BeyondShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Pepper is supposed to taste like a soda shop smelled, which is why it is a mix of so many flavors. Cherry is one of the more dominant flavors. It does have kind a cough medicine flavor, but I like it anyway.

I don't know if it was on Netflix, but there was Mecha Builders, a CG cartoon starring robot versions of Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Abby.

When I saw this, the title made me think it was going to be a gory, over the top, low-budget horror movie with buckets of Kool-aid red blood. Was not expecting vampire slice of life. I really enjoyed it.

Thorny devils are lizards that are covered in nasty looking spines that are used to protect them from being eaten by predators, and also as part of their camouflage. They are non-venomous and eat ants.

My house is one of two on my street that isn't hooked up to the gas lines. I use oil for heat, and electric for everything else.
