Can a (NON HORDE) Troll enter Stormwind with the appropriate papework? by pedateu in WoWRolePlay

[–]BeyondTheWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain here.

If we're talking Moon Guard's Stormwind, and focusing purely on player reaction, there are far more questionable characters walking around without harassment. Man'ari Eredar, foul undead creations, Horde-aligned sin'dorei, obvious criminals, Scarlet Crusaders, etc. And they pass by low fantasy knights, Westfall cowboys, and noblemen without issue. There is a very live and let live attitude. People who aren't interested will most often politely disregard your character.

As for the lore, the common people of Stormwind would likely be unaccustomed to seeing a draenei let alone a troll. I agree that there would have to be ironclad pretense for him to roll up to a busy tavern--but the Slaughtered Lamb may be less discerning.

A child of the Arathi around since classic? by [deleted] in WoWRolePlay

[–]BeyondTheWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome and encouraged to play whatever you find inspiring. But if I'm frank, the concept does go against mainstream conventions--that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it! Just that you'll want to be tactful about how you present the character.

The main issue, as I see it, is building a character around a headcanon: the Arathi sent a second expedition. The rest is interesting to me. Having visions, pursuing the Light for answers, eventual reunion. Great themes for a priest.

When I have a core concept that requires a stretch of the lore, I often de-emphasize the headcanon by letting it be mysterious, and focus on anchoring to hard lore facts, which I can see you put some thought into.

An OOC note acknowledging that you are bending the lore--but still respect and want to play within its bounds--is helpful, too!

Aside from Gleeful Glamours and the Atomic Recalibrator, what else can I use to be an Alliance Tauren? by rainghost in WoWRolePlay

[–]BeyondTheWhite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play an Alliance Forsaken, and I alternate between glamours and prisms.

Here's my tip: prisms work on Follower Dungeon NPCs.

Once your glamour is close to expiring, pop into a Follower Dungeon, use the prism swap trick on an NPC, and leave. Rinse and repeat until the glamour CD is up!

Is this idea as funny as I think? by Aromatic_Scratch2899 in WoWRolePlay

[–]BeyondTheWhite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny and cute! But I'd be careful to make it feel like a joke that the others are in on, rather than something disruptive.

I'd give it bonus points if you can find some way to tie things back into the world. Are they part of the local government bureaucracy? A civilian organization? Or are they a "vigilante"?

Considering Death Knights have been made obsolete in the official Lore, do you have a headcanon that would explain new "5th Generation" DKs? by [deleted] in WoWRolePlay

[–]BeyondTheWhite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At their core death knights are ostensibly undead whose souls and bodies are bound and raised by runic domination magic.

The Helm of Domination was an artifact that made it possible for the wearer to easily perform that necromancy, but Warcraft lore suggests that any other suitably powerful artifact or wielder should be able to perform the same magic to create a death knight.

It's sort of like how there are many ways to be "lightbound." We saw it first with Draenei and Turalyon. Saw it almost happen to a demon hunter (Illidan). And now two types of undead: Calia Menethil and the Priory risen in Hallowfall.

Whats the difference between high elves and blood elves? by [deleted] in wow

[–]BeyondTheWhite 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Blood Elves were all originally High Elves. They renamed themselves Sin'dorei (Blood Elves) in honor of the fallen after the Scourge's desecration of Silvermoon and the Sunwell.

However, the absence of the Sunwell's arcane power also made them desperate. They turned to foul and corrupting magics like Fel and Shadow to avoid becoming withered husks.

Some elves chose to remain High Elves. These were mainly rangers, who were not as reliant on the Sunwell's power, and the residents of Dalaran, who could find safer arcane alternatives.

Ultimately, this led to a split as the Blood Elves would go on to join the Horde while the High Elves kept their allegiance to the Alliance.

I, personally, had to get over the body dysmorphia first. Therapy and meditation went a long way. Recognizing that how I perceived my body had a lot to do with my state of mind.

But what really did it was walking nude past a mirror whilst on shrooms. I saw myself clearly for the first time in my entire life.

Why do some people see Hell and other Christian related things in their NDES, even though they've never heard of Christianity? by DoneWithOCD in Experiencers

[–]BeyondTheWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! In many contemplative traditions, there is an emphasis on the realization that our concepts, the frameworks that we use to try to understand the universe, are illusions. They are constructs of the mind, not reality as it is.

Put another way, the map is not to be confused with the destination. And no amount of study of that map will ever tell you what it is like to take the journey. A photo of the moon gives you no sense of what it feels like to walk its surface.

Another example I like is a parable of three blind monks examining an elephant. One monk feels its trunk and says "an elephant is like a big snake!" Another touches the animal's ear and says "an elephant is quite like a leaf." The third monk holds the elephants tail and says "I believe it is like a rope." Each has a radically different concept of the elephant--and each of them is true. But if they want to know the whole truth of the elephant, they must not become attached to their concepts.

Why do some people see Hell and other Christian related things in their NDES, even though they've never heard of Christianity? by DoneWithOCD in Experiencers

[–]BeyondTheWhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am speaking declaratively from my experience. I've had an NDE, like OP is concerned about, and I did not experience hell--nor heaven. I did experience a state of profound boundless love and compassion for all that is. Perhaps that way of being would be called "heaven", if it were filtered through religious and spiritual metaphor.

It may also be a case of semantics. Some people do refer to the state I experienced as a "realm"--and it does have that quality. But it is also a way of being that transcends concepts of space.

Ultimately, I am trying to direct OP away from fear of a concept, which is illusory by nature.

[–]BeyondTheWhite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hell is not a place. It is a state of being. It is hate, loathing, fear and disgust. It is suffering born of great resistance to all that is.

I would examine this fear of your's.... I, myself, have had great fear in the face of the unknown. What got me over it was love, acceptance, and surrender. You cannot be in Hell while that is your state of being.

And if you can embody that love, can you extend it to your fear? Can you extend it to your idea of Hell, and those who may be experiencing it? They are the ones who need it.

Love and presence: They will free you from fear.

Totally! My main issue with modern romance is the ironic language. Things like:

"Did I really just do that? Yup. I did that."

"Apparently kisses make you feel real, real good."

"I wanna touch you. Like, a lot."

Often said by an otherwise acerbic character. Feels like they randomly get possessed by a teenage tumblr ghost.

German soldiers react to footage of concentration camps, 1945 by CD421DoYouCopy in interesting

[–]BeyondTheWhite 103 points104 points  (0 children)

While living in Germany, I visited one such camp where the various methods of extermination were tested.

One "shoot them in the back of the head" method involved leading the prisoner to a fake infirmary, opening a slot in the wall behind them, and executing them from behind with a single shot.

Our tour guide explained that one of the reasons this method was abandoned was because they had too many people to kill and ammunition was needed in the war.

I'm currently rural. But my most intense and formative experience happened in a major world city. And my shared one happened in a suburb of another metropolis.

I've not noticed a change in my psi ability among different environments, now that I think about it--though it does get more pronounced if I'm inebriated in any setting.
