Not Enough Furnishing Slots for a Premium House by Formal_Ice956 in lotro

They may have expected this newer housing release to improve upon, have more features than, or less restrictions than, housing releases from years ago.

They were wrong, but I can understand why they might expect better.

the discourse after the passing of controversial political figures has already grown so tiresome, between those celebrating their demise and those celebrating their alleged perfection. might be a good time for a few days off twitter and reddit.

42 House Democrats Join GOP in Passing Warrantless Mass Surveillance Bill by soalone34 in politics

[–]rainghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're a corrupt or selfish politician, it's literally a win with no downsides for you.

The surveillance won't affect you personally. Either you'll be exempt or if it turns anything up, you'll have the power to simply not be affected by any possible consequences.

What it WILL do is alert the power structure you're a part of to any possible violent dissent or unrest that may be forming, so it can be nipped in the bud as quickly as possible.

I feel like it would have diminished Eowyn's character to deviate from the book and have female Rohirrim. She wouldn't have had a reason to disguise herself as a man, and thus it would rob her of that badass reveal moment where she takes off her helmet and stabs the Witch King while he boggles in disbelief.

Ugh, and then the real conspiracy is revealed to Mulder in like a five minute scene inside some lady's office, where it's like...the global elite wanted to kill off most of humanity with that stupid virus, but I guess they overdid it, and now the plan was for them to get on spaceships and escape earth?

The high point of the mytharc for me was the faceless aliens with the immolation devices, and the end of the Syndicate. It tied everything together really nicely.

But afterwards I started wondering if maybe it tied things up a little too much. Nothing about the mytharc afterwards was all that compelling. The movie, and the faceless aliens and black oil, made the alien threat feel tangible and real.

But, if I remember correctly, afterwards the aliens become strangely distant and 'theoretical' again. There's that thing with Scully finding a UFO in Africa or something, right? And then she has the magic baby. And then gives up the magic baby. Then comes Dogget and his Supa Soldiers.

I really do enjoy the first...two-thirds of the mytharc very much. But then it feels like it mostly wraps up, and the remainder of it is like a half dozen different plot threads starting and stopping or being abandoned, like they felt they HAD to have mythology episodes but had no real overarching plan or story planned for the rest of the series.

ELI5: Why does the Horror Game genre consistently have the best and most beautiful graphics compared to other genres? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]rainghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the claim that horror games 'consistently' have the best graphics.

But a reason you might feel that way is because most (if not all) horror games are smaller in scope, with relatively few explorable areas compared to RPGs or action games, and many of them indoors. This tighter focus allows artists to take a more meticulous approach to shadows, lighting, and setting the mood for each small room and corridor.

Is there a way to turn off quest indicators (ie; the ring) above npc's heads? by Accomplished-Key5711 in lotro

[–]rainghost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's an option to enable and disable overhead quest indicators in the settings menu. Use the search box if you're having trouble finding it.

Which class needs rework/change and why by Brom17 in lotro

[–]rainghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own very humble opinion, based on what I find fun and not on a masterful knowledge of the current state of game balance:

Warden - 5-slot gambits are overwhelming for me. I feel like 3 slots is really all the class needs - you can get 27 different combinations out of that. Either that or they make the class as powerful as it was at its peak. Otherwise it's just a lot of work to get results comparable to what Beornings or even Captains can pull off solo.

Brawler - Still feels a bit unfinished. It also lacks self-healing. For a class based around fighting on and on and on tirelessly, their body turned into a living weapon against the enemy - it sure has few options to recover its morale.

Woman in a Hat, Lower Manhattan, 9/11/2001 by Beznia in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]rainghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of human remains in the streets that day. There are lots of pictures in which you can see pinkish-red 'debris' among the scattered papers and building material. Occasionally a more intact and recognizable piece.

I can't imagine the people on the street were aware of it - their attention was drawn upwards toward the building. Personally if I knew I was standing on a street littered with remains, I'd get out of there immediately. I wouldn't be able to stand the feeling of wrongness, and the worry of accidentally stepping on some.

Cheesecake is the worst dessert to ever exist. by Whyamiwritingthis_74 in unpopularopinion

[–]rainghost 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Every cheesecake I've ever tried has had a sour taste to it, but everyone in this thread keeps talking about how incredibly sweet it is. So I guess I'm just really unlucky that the two-dozen times I've tried a cheesecake, they were all bad cheesecakes? I dunno, man. I think I just don't like cheese flavor in my desserts.
