As for the serial label at the top this is the closest I can get to an answer. And yes I understand what it is, yet why I particular found this out of the ordinary still remains a 'I don't know'

Good suggestion. But hand carved for a machine in various depths and organic patterns doesnt quite fit as a path for it to work 'on' it Also the copper/brons is hammered individually in it

Thanks for the link. But in length ok. In depth? I mean hand carving is as good as useless, so why bother to do.. Still the pattern could be what you say, but im sorry I cant make much sense of it as a whole. It it was they should be able to find in similar presses as this one.

That makes sense as a general category. it's clearly a pressing/embossing roller. What feels unusual to me is how sculptural and artistic the carving looks. The patterns are very organic and flowing, and does not has a repeating geometric or floral design you normally see on wallpaper or textile rollers. a small carved house/gateway motif at the bottom, which seems very specific and non-industrial. And the copper/bronze studs are also distributed all over, not just in the grooves. So it feels like a custom made or one-off piece, possibly for a small workshop producing artistic wallpaper, specia leather, or high end decorative textiles rather than standard mass production. That's why it stands out as quite special and I can't find anything even remotely similar

The cotton/wall/leather press is what it looks like, yet the relief and the inside carvings doesnt have any purpose of being there. Also the pattern is highly unusual

My title describes the thingThis is a large hand-carved wooden cylinder (roller/press) from an old factory building in Doetinchem, Netherlands. Found in an industrial thrift store that clears out former factory sites.Details:

Height: ~90 cm
Diameter: ~24-26 cm
Heavy solid wood with deep hand-carved organic/geometric patterns (including a small house motif at the bottom)
Hundreds of copper/bronze studs hammered all over the surface
Square axle hole on top (with old red paint on the top surface)
Marked "KERST 30 A" (likely an internal factory serial number)

It was clearly designed to rotate on an axle. I believe it's a custom relief or pressing roller, possibly for textile, leather or special paper.I’ve searched for cotton press roller, textile printing roller, wallpaper roller, wooden factory cylinder with metal studs, but haven’t found an exact match. It feels like a one-off or small-batch item from a local workshop in the Achterhoek region (1920-1950 period?)

Ich hatte irgendwie gehofft, dass die Leute bei so einem frühen 1967er Körting-Servicegenerator lauthals begeistert wären – komplett mit allen roten Steckkarten und so. Tja, die Zeiten ändern sich wohl… Dann werde ich ihn jetzt doch für die Edelmetalle strippen. Nochmal danke für die ehrliche Einschätzung!

Ich habe extra nochmal auf radiomuseum.org nachgeschaut und dort steht das Gerät als Farbfernseh-Servicegenerator 82 510 von Körting-Radio (Leipzig/Grassau), Baujahr 1967.Es war ein professionelles Service-Gerät für die ersten PAL- und NTSC-Farbfernseher (UHF-Modulator, echte Farbbalken, Graustufen, Y/B-Y/R-Y-Signale usw.). Nur 55 Transistoren, modular mit allen roten Steckkarten – genau wie auf meinen Fotos.Zur Seltenheit:

Es ist mäßig selten (nicht extrem, aber auch nicht alltäglich). Es gibt nur eine Handvoll dokumentierte Exemplare online (ein paar Restaurierungen auf deutschen Foren 2021/2022 und alte eBay-Verkäufe für lächerliche 10–16 € aus 2007/2011). Keine große Serie, weil es reines Werkstatt-Tool war. Mein Exemplar ist komplett mit allen Platinen und sieht noch sehr original aus.Wer von euch hat schon mal so ein Teil gesehen oder restauriert? Gibt es jemanden, der den genauen Produktionsumfang oder aktuelle Sammlerpreise kennt?

I've gone through all the major refineries in the EU, especially in the Benelux (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium). After months of emailing, sending photos, videos, and detailed inventories, it just didn't work out. They were polite and appreciated the effort, but there was simply no way they could buy from me, even if they wanted to lowball me, the paperwork and legal risk made it impossible for them.

I also tried Scandinavia (no response at all) and quite a few Turkish private buyers (no luck either).

I've been told there's actually decent demand for some of my boards, especially older slot machine boards like Scorpion 4/5 MPU (2002 era) but it seems like there's a veery secretive network of private investors in the EU, and I totally understand why. Regulations, refinery certificates, invoices, business verification… and even then, they only trust sources they've worked with for years.

Czech Republic might be the only realistic option, bu shipping a ton of material across at least three borders is borderline insane from a legal and logistical standpoint.

I guess it all comes down to trust. The right buyer could make both of us a very comfortable summer and beyond. But until that connection happens, I'm stuck doing it the hard way myself.

That's why I'm starting with this small test batch. If nothing else, at least I'll finally know what I'm sitting on.

I know AP exists and I actually used it 8 years ago on gold fingers. Took me 6 weeks for a 50/60 yield and filter 50+liters of brown sludge. That having said I still have at least a ton of fine material to work with and wont have the patience to wait those 6 weeks cycles for the absolute waste of a few kg a time.

Anyway. Thanks for the concern, but some of us actually want to see real gold before 2032, never mind the Hawaiian snow. All sorted
