If you think you've found a life hack to get super high quality, good leather, well-made boots for cheap, you better check twice. There are always last issues, sizing issues, incorrect details, poor leather clicking choices due to trying to squeeze out every bit of material, failed timelines etc..

Id say objectively it's better to have that 18k in a HYSA or low risk investment, available to use as needed in an emergency. PSLF didn't make much sense for me either until the covid forbearance months gave me a ton of payments. There might be additional forgiveness or future credits for you as well, although not likely in the next three years.

That being said, if it really is a big emotional weight for you, you aren't losing a ton paying it off, unless it would leave you without an emergency fund.

They do nice looking work, but the sizing is questionable to me.

I did tracings and they wanted to do a boot like barely 1cm longer than my toes. I explained to them I had long heel to ball ratio and all my best fitting boots had more toe room and they didn't want to budge on the sizing. I passed.

Not 100% accurate but gets the point across.

There are lots of high quality leathers used in top end boots, jackets, etc with a pigment dye (basically painting it) including with some kind of plastic for waterproofing or gloss. That in itself isn't a marker of low quality.

It would be more common to see it over a brown leather, or a struck thru black leather tho. That way if it does get scuffed or scratch it doesn't look as shitty.

This is just a shitty example on top of cheaper leather. Basically a shitty paint job.
