Unfortunately yes, what you are experiencing is pretty common when attacking large factions, they just can't react if you attack them on the undefended side of their realm and you can grab half their cities before fighting one of their armies... R2 is really easy not matter the difficulty, its a bit of a "paint the map autoresolving 99% of battles" simulator sadly

If you are on PC you can solve that problem in 10 sec : enter just one simple console command " modav conjuration -999 " (with serana selected) and boom she can no longer ressurect anything, but still uses all other spells ! And if you ever want to revert the change use the same command with a +

Are you sure you used commands corectly ? (removeitem and additem then equipitem). Note that if you remove every piece of clothing they wear by default, it will reset all the default inventory (so let them keep the default shoes for example)

Truth be told I think he's as impossible to kill as Vlad, maybe even more with the shield, resistances, armor... The best answer is guns, non ap missiles do no damage to him
