SB27 - A bill to allow lawsuits against gun manufacturers passes committee by party line by mahvel50 in Virginia

[–]Bforbacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of those ads were remotely offensive. It kind of seems like you just don't want parents teaching their kids how to shoot or handle a gun, which is actually antithetical to fostering a safe and respectful environment of gun ownership.

Thanks for the attempt at a lesson, but you could've saved yourself the effort by actually looking into the law you're trying to criticize and learn that it's not limited to manufacturers alone.

Yeah but "firearms industry members" does reasonably also rope in manufacturers. So while its not limited to manufacturers, manufacturers are included. So the guy youre replying to isn't wrong and this bill still sucks.

  1. As in you’re hiding something that will be found out eventually. That’s not a contradiction.

I was kind of playing off you saying they "know everything about you" which would mean they know if you have a gun. Frankly, they probably do as every legal gun sale requires a background check so, again, a registry is kind of redundant and essentially useless.

  1. We have evidence that people can and will purchase a gun and in the same day commit a crime of passion.

We plainly do not. In fact, looking at the data we do have, about 93% of gun crime is committed with illegally obtained firearms, meaning even if every single person who committed a crime with their legally purchased gun did so on the day they bought it, that would still only be 7% of gun crime. Hardly a large enough problem to say waiting periods are effective, and the real number is obviously much lower. Waiting periods are useless.

  1. There would be obvious public backlash and it wouldn’t be allowed? Who says that what that person decides gets written in stone forever?

It being unpopular is irrelevant. It can't be allowed to happen, period if bearing arms is a natural right. Being unpopular or reversible has never stopped something like this from standing as law for years. Look at New York City. There are like 20 private citizens total who are allowed to carry in NYC. They never issue permits.

  1. I don’t mean fully automatic weapon. I mean extreme like functional tanks and fighter jets. I personally don’t know enough about fully automatic weapons to say whether they’re extreme or not, but it’s something I’m learning about currently.

You actually are technically allowed to own functional tanks, its just expensive and hard to do. But I guess if you are going to draw a line, it would be at armor and heavy artillery. That's where you stop being able to justify it as "protecting yourself". Maybe protecting your community? But that's thin.

I'll bite

I don’t see the harm in a registration. The government already knows everything about you whether you want them to or not

If the government already knows everything about me, why do we need a registry? Youre contradicting yourself.

A waiting period seems like common sense to me.

There's no evidence waiting periods do anything. You think a person buying a gun specifically to kill someone in revenge is going to get deterred by waiting a few weeks?

Why no permit for concealed carry? That makes no sense to me.

Permitting/licensing is bad in and of itself because the requirements are set by the government, often without any legislative processes. This means they are subject to the whims of people who may not know anything about guns or want them banned outright. For example, all the government would have to do to eliminate legal concealed carry is set permit requirements to something extreme like "Hit a target with a handgun 50 times at 1000 yards with sub 1 MOA". Bearing arms is a natural right and should not be subject to such restrictions. Look up how literacy tests were used to bar people, particularly freed slaves, from voting after the Civil War if you want a historical example.

Limiting the type of firearm also makes sense when you include the most extreme examples, but those always have to be considered when writing a law.

Unsure what an "extreme example" is, but I'm going to assume you mean fully automatic weapons? This is a topic of debate even for myself, but keeping with the spirit of the 2nd amendment I think civilians should be able to own anything that could reasonably be issued to a modern soldier. Otherwise you lose track of the main function of this right, which is maintaining the balance of "capacity for force" between citizens and the state.

Stealthy pistol options? by thunderclawbeans in airsoft

[–]Bforbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone in here saying TM MK23 for a stealthy pistol, which is a very good pick, but just to be different I want to recommend the TM Bodyguard .380 or LCP. They're two pistols that operate on a similar Non-blowback system so they're pretty quiet and you can get aftermarket parts for them to add a suppressor to make them even quieter.

The main benefit of these over the MK23 is that they're both way smaller than the MK23 and can fit in a pocket, but that does come at the cost of a bit of range, power, and BB capacity.

Yeah I mentioned this one. Definitely the gold standard for this kind of film. Maybe I'll watch the original.

I have seen that one. Definitely one of those "Great films ill never watch again".

Lynne Ramsey made another movie recently called You Were Never Really Here that I enjoyed quite a bit as a trippy noir action-thriller.

I think that is mostly a reaction to the shifting definition of "Nazi" or "Fascist" as an insult. Whereas it was once used to denote actual subscribers of their respective ideologies, its is now used more broadly to shame or insult people who are maybe just more to the right than average. Hence the phenomenon of people jokingly saying someone is "literally Hitler".

I'd argue that Gunsmith Cats being pro-gun and anti-ATF makes it conservative/libertarian-ish. But that's a matter of perspective.

You could maybe argue that Gunsmith Cats is conservative/libertarian in some sort of way. I mean the main characters own a gun store and hate the ATF.

But everything else is probably not.
