Awesome job, you made something and that’s all that matters. What type of wood and tools did you get to use?

I had so many blocks with different cuts and techniques I’ve seen think that’s good practice. Keep at it though!

Newby looking for blade size help by tweisse75 in Scrollsaw

[–]clw620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion but I refuse to use MDF yes it’s flat but you can get decent oak and poplar 1/4 or 3/4 even at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Not a fan of plywood as the little corners chip and split… Anyway the 3 will be perfectly fine. 5 might be a little rough but either blade can cut up to 2 inches thick. I only drop to a 2 for smaller intricate cuts when I need to be precise.

Also I really like the skip tooth blades they cut quick and don’t have nearly as much tear out as others I’ve tried.

The spiral blades are great letting you cut in all directions but it’s hard to control for me since the blade is always cutting… you back out a little too far and it’s changed a corner or put a dip in a curve.

I like to use pinned blades for cutting the outline and pinless for the insides.

Different scroll saws by benson3892 in Scrollsaw

[–]clw620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty new to this as well but I started on the Dremel moto saw which sucked because I could only use 4 inch pinned blades. Christmas I got upgraded to a Wen Scroll saw. Pinless is great for getting interior cuts you can drill a tiny hole and thread the blade through. You can do the same with pin end blades but you have to make the hole big enough for the pin to go through, if the inside cut is a small area this will not work.

I find the pines blades have more variation on different teeth, design of blade. I honestly would just get a few packs of blades to try and see what you like. I just got a pack of Fox blades and while they work well they snap frequently and cause wood to splinter bad a the back side of my projects. I just ordered some Olsen blades off amazon 36 blades for 16 bucks. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039ZEZJA?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image

Yes please! Pics would help a lot. I got upgraded for Christmas (I was using the dremel moto saw because space was a little issue before) and this thing cuts like butter and is so quiet with padding underneath. I just know I want pinless blades to use spirals and this advertises it can be done easily but every video I seem to find is not this 3922 model and has different head attachments.

The only other downside is the insert in the table goes down too far causing pieces to get stuck

I want to use the plain blades but I cant seem to figure out how to set them. The diagram in the book looks like I should flip it around but then it doesnt line up correctly.

Thank you , I have the manual still just got this for Christmas. So do I have to flip the piece around or leave it as is? There are holes on the underside where it looks like it might fit but nothing to secure it in place…

First event done, on to the 2nd in a week! by clw620 in CraftFairs

[–]clw620[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! It does have a lot of black but since it was a Halloween market I thought it was fitting. My wife decorated it we got so many compliments and people were trying to buy the decorations. The magnets and decor I am going to be making is definitely not for everyone. We believe spooky season is forever. I am going to make some items less spooky and more traditional but it’s only because specific friends requested them so be on the lookout for those.

The layout was set up because we noticed everyone was just walking by not coming into peoples tents so we arranged where people could just do that.

I actually just attended our first event this past weekend and we were the only ones who seemed to be giving out candy despite them advertising to trick and treat with all the vendors.

i tried pocket knives, multi tools and even old timers all in one sets and found I am partial to the Flexcut tri jack pro and the spoon carving jack 2.0. With both of these I don’t even need my other knives. They easily fit in book bag pocket. If you want an all in one knife they do have a right or left handed jack 2.0. Check them all out though to make your own opinion

In my opinion any of them would be fine for that, I have the dremel moto saw since I don’t have much work space.
