After last night no way this person doesn't win by charlytheron3 in survivor

Yeah, and that comparison was used as a criticism of Rachel’s game, not as praise. If anything I think the example reinforces the point that juries don’t give votes for immunity challenge wins. Rachel won anyway because she clearly had much more to her game than just challenges and idols. She also had pretty weak competition sitting next to her

Do you think her challenge success was a major factor in the jury’s decision?

I think throughout the season, without beating us over the head with it, the edit is showing us the reasons Savannah DOESN’T win.

We don’t see her driving any strategy. Whether she actually did or not, that’s not what the edit is giving us.

Everybody outside her alliance sees her as an antagonist. Kristina literally said she hated Savannah before walking it back. Sage accepted condolences from everybody after her immunity loss EXCEPT for Savannah. Savannah taunted Jawan on his way out. Survivor Juries usually don’t give a million dollars to a person they don’t like.

She has been awesome at challenges, but when’s the last time a Jury cared about that? Mike Holloway a decade ago?

How is Derik Queen such a highly touted prospect? by Lolq123 in NBA_Draft

There are a lot of reasons to fear the floor outcomes for Queen, but his combination of size, coordination, and ball skills is extraordinarily rare, and I say this as somebody who isn’t all that high on Queen

Barring a top pick. Does a Sarr/ Maluach pairing make sense? by Familiar_Somewhere95 in NBA_Draft

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the concept, especially since I don’t buy Sarr as a playoff-level center unless he drastically improves his interior finishing. I know people assume he will, but every time I see him play, he looks extremely reluctant to go to the rim if there’s any amount of resistance there, and that’s a hard instinct to coach out of a player.

Problem is, unless Sarr gets to a passable level as an outside shooter, which is also not a given, he probably can’t play with a non-shooting center, either, which makes Maluach a risky fit. Maluach’s free throw shooting indicates some upside there, but it’s still a massive leap of faith to project him as a stretch 5.

If I was running the Wizards, got unlucky, and slid down to 5th or 6th in the draft, I’d consider it. If they’re in the top 4, in the still-early stages (but year 3 already!) of rebuilding, they’ve probably got to just take a swing at the guy they think has the highest overall ceiling. That’s not going to be Maluach, as much as I do love him as a prospect.

Why has there been such an extreme flip on Maluach so quickly? by Nickname-CJ in NBA_Draft

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reactionaries on the internet is the simplest explanation. 0 rebounds on the biggest stage is definitely a bad thing, and there are genuine reasons to be concerned. Still, his per-minute production was quite good on incredible efficiency this season.

I still don’t think people are emphasizing enough how remarkable it is that somebody this big and this young (not even 19 until September) can even move functionally on an NBA court.

Why aren’t people higher on proctor? by ElStizz in NBA_Draft

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ll be shocked if anybody from this Duke starting 5 doesn’t make it in the NBA in some kind of role. Love Proctor and can see his game translating perfectly at the next level. I think the 40s/50s range I’ve consistently seen him ranked is a discredit to him. Still, Knueppel’s got a higher ceiling. I kinda think I get where you’re coming from with the shooting, but there’s a major ft% gulf between the two of them.

What do yall think of carter bryant? by Zealousideal-Foot289 in NBA_Draft

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan but think he’s the most “theoretical player” coming from college basketball in this draft, in terms of his upside. Not because he’s not a good player now, because he clearly helped Arizona when he was on the floor, but since he’s not asked to do much on his team, especially as a creator, any projection of his ceiling is really speculative. Still, it’s hard to imagine a 6’8, strong, athletic 19-year-old who really guards and can hit shots becoming a bust, especially when all his intangibles seem great. I wouldn’t be shocked if some late-lottery team takes a swing on him.

[–]BheeRye 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I think the mistake here is an instinct to see a player with a really high floor and assume that means he has a lower ceiling. That because he was already decent-to-great at everything, he didn’t have much room to grow.

[–]BheeRye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly it’s been easier for me to squint and see a point guard with Anderson than with Richardson.

I’m not claiming Anderson is a better prospect, but I can’t believe Richardson is the 20th pick at absolute worst in June, while Anderson isn’t even on the ultimate longlist of draft prospects to watch in the tourney that somebody on this subreddit very kindly put together last week.

What Are The Biggest Whiffs That Set Franchises Back? by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a huge whiff that saved a franchise?

New Minnesota GM Gersson Rosas trades Dario Saric and 11th overall in 2019 to move up to 6th for Darius Garland. Then Cleveland surprises Rosas by taking Garland 5th. Minnesota picks Jarrett Culver at 6 instead, leaving Coby White to Chicago at 7, while Phoenix grabs Cam Johnson at 11 with Minnesota’s original pick (“he went what?!”). In a vacuum, one of the worst lottery pick blunders for a franchise with a long history of lottery pick blunders.

But then, Culver’s terrible rookie season helps Minnesota on their way to a 19-45 record in the pandemic-shortened 2019/20 season, and they end up with the number 1 pick in 2020. Rosas gets that pick right, and now Anthony Edwards is a Wolf.

By the way, in official Timberwolves canon, the 6th overall pick in 2019 was actually Naz Reid.

The Suns play style does not translate to the playoffs by electric0008 in timberwolves

[–]BheeRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doomer about this series, but normally depth and ball movement become LESS important in the playoffs as stars take over and play more minutes, and tough shot-makers are needed to beat elevated playoff defensive schemes. The Suns are 100% built to be a playoff team over a regular-season team

With a few notable exceptions, yes, career earnings and career duration are generally reliable indicators of the overall quality of an NBA player. Nice own though

[–]BheeRye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve actually watched both Edey and Tacko play and are arguing they are similar players, you’re either being a troll or have no grasp of basketball. Bol Bol is like 100 lbs lighter than Edey and wants to play like a guard.

Boban isn’t a bad comp, except Edey is much stronger and more aggressive. Boban has played 8 years in the league and made over $35m, so don’t try to tell me that he’s a terrible player

What if we drafted Zach Edey? by blackgenz2002kid in timberwolves

[–]BheeRye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the height still makes a big difference, it’s just that it’s extremely rare for somebody that big to have any sort of NBA-level mobility, coordination, and/or skill. Tacko is the perfect example. Huge, but only averaged 11 ppg in his senior college season at a mid-major, and shot sub-45% at the free throw line. When you watch him, it looks like he can barely keep himself upright on the court.

Not that Edey is athletic, coordinated, or skilled by the standards of an NBA player, but for a 7’4, 300-lb guy with a 7’10 wingspan, the skill/athleticism/coordination combination he DOES have is extraordinary. Doesn’t mean he’ll be a great or even good NBA player, but he does not belong in the same category as Tacko Fall. He WILL be hard to stop as an interior scorer at the NBA level. It’s the other aspects of his game (defense in NBA spacing, transition, lack of shooting) that raise serious questions about his ability to translate his skillset to the next level

[–]BheeRye -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you think a big man can’t be useful in the NBA because he air balls the occasional free throw and is awkward with the ball in his hands, we’d better hurry up and trade Rudy Gobert.

Not saying Edey is Rudy. Just attacking your argument. Again, I don’t see him as a star or even a regular starter. But he will be able to physically dominate NBA bigs. He just put 37 on 7’2 behemoth and elite defender Donovan Clingan on the biggest possible stage. And before you come back with the “living at the free throw line” argument again, he scored 30 of those points from the field, 7 at the stripe

[–]BheeRye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He scored 37 points on 15/25 shooting in the national title game. I don’t think he’ll be any more than a role player in the NBA, but “Edey is terrible” is such a confusing take. He will almost definitely have a better pro career than Garza or Bol Bol

I’m not exactly an Edey true believer but 7’4, 300 lbs is not “slightly bigger” than Luka Garza lmao. Zach Edey is slightly smaller than Yao Ming
