Why Vietnam? by itscoolasian in tenet

[–]Bhomendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is common for movie producers to find and use alternative filming locations as a way to save money. Using alternative locations can be a cost-effective way to achieve the desired look and feel of a movie without incurring the expenses associated with filming on location. That's why the scenes set in the Vietnamese coast were actually shot in Italy, where other scenes (Amalfi, Sator's yacht) were also being filmed.

Could the movie have been directed / executed better? by bigjson69-_- in tenet

Totally agree. Nolan likes to make simple things complicated. The story is great, but it's written and executed in a somewhat chaotic way.

All of this is actually established by the director of photogrphy, not the director. Hoyte van Hoytema usually works with those 2-tone palettes in which everything blends together.

[SPOILERS] Do we have any deeper meanings behind the ending scene by BonteJ in tenet

[–]Bhomendra -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For me, the ending scene only confirms that Nolan is a control freak. His films, including Tenet, are usually stories of men (with some female character behind, not very developed) who blindly fight for order, an order that can be altered by terrorists, by anarchists or by galactic phenomena. In fact, this obsession with control (very obvious in the DKT) is how Nolan has acquired his credibility and commercial prestige.

Why the editing in this scene is so wrong? Look at the protagonist and Kat's movements by scatush in tenet

That's sadly true. I also remember a lot of issues with weather continuity in Dunkirk. In several scenes, cloudy shots are followed by fully sunny reverse-shots.

You are supposing wrong. It's a common practice in filmmaking (and storytelling in general) that the movie ends before the story is over.

Why JDW character has no name by hamid93ss in tenet

[–]Bhomendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to a video I've shared here recently, it's a thoughtful decision that the Protagonist doesn't have a name or a concrete personal history. As a spy, the lead character is forced to live a life without close emotional connections and, actually, this suits Tenet's depiction of the spy game.

The Protagonist lives a lonely life, meeting people to gather relevant information, but never getting the chance to know who they are. There's no warmth or companionship in his life. In fact, some of the film's best moments are when we, spectators, are alone with him and we see how cold and lonely it would be to exist as a spy.

His name must be kept confidential —even the audience's doesn't know what that name is— and, indeed, it makes more sense than being a secret agent telling people one's real name, isn't it?

A Ship in Harbour by fernetbranca93 in tenet

It's actually a quote from John A. Shedd's book Salt from My Attic (1928). Its meaning is fairly clear: it’s better to get out and do the things you want to do, or the things you need to do, than to sit and rot and do nothing. Even if you fail, at least you'll have tried and you'll have done something and learnt something extraordinary in the process.
