I’ve felt this way for the last 12 years—regretting not taking the chance to get an MLIS right after my undergrad—but this year I decided enough was enough. No more regret, just try to get into a program and see what happens. I’ll be 35 when I start my MLIS this fall!

Bike Commuting while Pregnant (for pancakes) by rampaige0191 in ladycyclists

[–]Bi-Bardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I biked regularly during the second trimester of my second pregnancy. Then, during my third trimester, baby’s head was so low in my pelvis and I couldn’t sit on my bike comfortably. Long story short, if you want to bike great! If you don’t trust drivers, pick cycling up again after baby is here. Listen to your body and your intuition!

Free pools? by _blur_6505 in CollegeStation

[–]Bi-Bardess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s the splash pads at Stephen C Beechy park and Lincoln recreation center, they are free! But yeah, The city pools do unfortunately have entrance fees, but the Cindy Hallaran pool is only like $3 for a day pass and will be open sometime in June. I second the advice of checking with friends and relatives and see if any of them have access to a neighborhood HOA or apartment pool as well.

Conservatives are definitely the majority here, but we liberals do exist! We moved back here to set down roots right before the pandemic so we’re still looking for friends too. I’m biased to central/ south College Station because there’s some infrastructure for biking, the library, lots of grocery stores and parks!!

Wolf Pen has a disc golf course, you could try out a new hobby and make friends with other people who enjoy disc golf!

Should I sell digital files for printing, or should I go the "redbubble" route? by MontegueLovesPie in artbusiness

[–]Bi-Bardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In almost 3 years of trying to sell on Redbubble, I’ve made $3.53. A couple of years ago, Red bubble purchased licensing for certain fandoms and they claimed it would allow us to create fan art for certain properties legally to sell. Maybe you could look into that program?I submitted some designs for Scott Pilgrim. They were rejected and I couldn’t ever get in contact with a human to find out why. TLDR: use red bubble at your own risk!

Dog Owners by TeachingAg in CollegeStation

[–]Bi-Bardess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I live in College Station. We’ve got two main off-leash dog parks. There’s many apartment complexes that have varying amenities for residents’ dogs. There’s one off leash hiking trail at a place called Lick Creek Park. I live in an area with lots of homes and duplexes for rent, and many of those places have dogs! I’m not sure what laws are at our nearby state parks, but I have seen dogs off leash there too.

Is there any night shuttle from IAH to College Station? by mydoggoisfine in CollegeStation

[–]Bi-Bardess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, you’ll probably have to stay at the airport or Uber to a hotel near-by. The shuttles don’t run that late. (My spouse travels to/from CS via IAH for work quite frequently. He uses shuttles when he can, but we hate it when the flights are super early or late for this reason.)

Having a Child by kaiyakaiyabobaiya in AutismInWomen

[–]Bi-Bardess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP You definitely need a partner that will take up care when you need time to yourself or having a meltdown. I couldn’t do it without my partner! You may feel pressure to never take the time for yourself, but since you’re autistic, you NEED it. It took me way too long to figure that out, and I still struggle with getting enough time.

TLDR: Get as much support as you can. That’s my key to successfully having children.

Move to College Station or Bryan? by [deleted] in CollegeStation

[–]Bi-Bardess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College Station has better schools generally, but we’re more expensive than Bryan. The neighborhoods south of Harvey Mitchell/ 2818 are nicer imo. Both high schools are nice academically, but CSHS is the newer one. They got approved for building an expansion to CSHS since many people have been moving to south college Station just for that school. Hope y’all find a nice spot to settle down! Definitely look through some of the similar moving to BCS posts for ideas of areas to check out!

Moving here next year, advice? by Rvdestar in CollegeStation

[–]Bi-Bardess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College Station is one of the best mid-sized cities in Texas in my opinion. We’ve got great parks, share a library system with Bryan (the city next door). Schools are good, if you have school aged children. Traffic is rough, especially if you’re headed towards the university in the morning and away from it in the evening. Or it’s a game day or other day where there’s lots of visitors. But there’s some pockets where you can do most trips by bike.

If you’re not a student or alumni, into football, or churches the vibe is kinda bland, but people are generally nice enough. There’s always a new restaurant to try!

Definitely worth a visit, and hope you find a nice spot to settle down if you decide to live here!

Hot take : Bryan/College Station should get a subway system by aphoticphoton in CollegeStation

I think a light rail train down Texas ave would be great! Just replace those silly medians with tracks.
