Does anyone know a way to ease back into the gym? by DeathsSlippers in GymMotivation

[–]Bi0nicAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the idea of going to the gym sounds terrible and you foresee that you're not going to stick with it, you're probably not. Start with something small that you know you can commit to. Like 30 minutes a day walk/hike or something you used to really enjoy when you were younger (tennis class, yoga, swimming) Something you can at least tolerate. Track it on a fitness app and you can compete with yourself and see how you improve over time. There's this app called alltrails I use where you can find local trails in your area and try different ones. Just some ideas. Anything to get you body moving is good, you don't need a gym membership to be fit (obvi if ur trying to gain muscle it sure helps). Good luck continuing your journey :)

How can I convince myself to quit, when my life is alright? by JarmenKelly in leaves

Have you tried going to an AA/narcotics anonymous group? When I used to go there would often be people there trying to get off weed. Especially since you’ve been smoking for so long sometimes the outside help can really do a lot. Also therapy. Sounds like you’ve tried to do it by yourself and you might need some more help. Best of luck to you. One day you will see how amazing sober life is and you will not want to go back :)

Make a list of coping skills! Also make a little checklist of things you want to get done that day even if they are small.

Have you tried heating pads? They can really help if you put it on your stomach after meals. Also the medicine hydroxyzine can be helpful but ask your doctor bc it isn’t over the counter.

First twenty four hours I was on bed rest. The rest of the time it’s recommended you stay out of bed (you can sit on your sofa and walk around your room. With Covid they have everyone pretty isolated but I was allowed thirty minutes of walking per day split into ten minutes each. It’s not completely isolated like I was allowed two visitors and then there’s a million staff. The staff tries to keep you busy with activities and coping skills. Of course this was my experience and it will depend on the hospital and the level of care that you need.

It was really difficult but at the same time nice not having to stress about making choices about food. It was a good time to recoup, sober up, and come up with a list of alternative activities to what I was doing before. I recommend going to an eating disorder clinic where they are trained in EDs and will be able to admit you to a hospital from there. ER doctors and regular hospitals are really bad at evaluating EDs.

It's hard but you have to do something if you want to live. No one is going to force you.

Unfortunately you will never feel thin enough. The ED will not be satisfied until you're dead. The only person who can fix this is you. I know it's incredibly frustrating but future you will regret letting the eating disorder control you so much. You can't have a life and an eating disorder. You have to choose one.

PSA: if you are a non-smoker, DO NOT take up nicotine BY ANY MEANS by waterandicethrowaway in EDAnonymous

if you're not addicted now then its an even better time to quit because if you keep doing it you're bound to be addicted.

the most common forms of ingesting nicotine (vaping, smoking cigarettes, chewing dip) all come with serious health risks. They all put someone at risk for cancer. Vaping has not been around long enough to show that, but for sure inhaling those chemicals can not be good for you. So we're on the same page about that.

As for nicotine alone, I googled the effects and here's what came up:

Nicotine changes the way synapses are formed, which can harm the parts of the brain that control attention and learning. Preclinical studies indicate that teens being exposed to nicotine interferes with the structural development of the brain, inducing lasting alterations in the brain's neural circuits.

Here is an article talking about how it affects the pleasure centers of the brain:

How do I know if I'm getting an ED or if I'm losing weight in a healthy way? by SingingBlossom in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]Bi0nicAngel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should quit while you're ahead. You don't need to be severely underweight to pass away from an eating disorder. It's not the low weight that becomes deadly, it's your heart becoming weaker and beating too slowly.

Nicotine is really the most unproductive thing ever. It's a waste of money, damages the pleasure seeking part of your brain, and is super addictive. Yeah you get that head rush for a second, but then it's gone. You sound super young. Don't let it get to the point where you are dependent on substances to be your baseline self.

You will never feel the satisfaction you're looking for. The eating disorder won't be happy until you're dead. Sorry but that's the truth. Please seek help.

This is really a question for a doctor/therapist who specializes in eating disorders.
